Grade 5/6 News

Hi Wimba Primary School community,
We can't believe it's almost week 4! The Grade 5 and 6 students have settled beautifully back into classroom routines and are actively engaged in their learning.
In English, we’ve been exploring different prefixes and suffixes, including se- and -ate. We've also been practising how to create compound sentences using coordinating conjunctions.
Additionally, the students have been reading some wonderful texts, When the War is Over and Lone Pine. They are developing a deeper understanding of themes related to war and investigating the history of different conflicts.
The students have also been busy publishing their amazing, innovative texts as part of their 'Talk for Writing' unit – The Compass. Keep an eye out, as these will be shared with you via Compass as part of the Common Assessment Task (CAT). Here’s a sample of some of the great writing:
In Numeracy, the Grade 5s are currently learning about multiplication using one- and two-digit numbers, while the Grade 6s are focusing on transformations—creating patterns that involve transformations and identifying those patterns.
On Wednesday, 25 June, we will set off on our first year 5/6 CYC City Camp! Please ensure you provide consent and payment via Compass as soon as possible to secure your spot.
