Christian Meditation at St Michael's School

At St Michael’s School, we practise Christian Meditation as a form of prayer and spiritual reflection.

Christian Meditation is different to relaxation meditation. It allows the school community to pause and spend time with God.

Christian meditation provides a moment to become still, listen to a short prayer or reflective reading, and connect with God through silence and stillness.

This type of prayer nurtures a sense of wonder, acceptance, belonging, and being present in the moment.

Each week, a class is rostered to lead Christian Meditation. Students write brief prayers or reflections inspired by their learning, current events, or significant occasions. Two students use the school’s public address system to guide the meditation. One introduces the session, gently reminding the school community to breathe calmly and prepare to listen. The other reads the selected prayer or reflection.

Following this, the two students move to the staffroom with a staff member to quietly meditate, while the rest of the school continues their meditation in their learning spaces.

Currently, Christian Meditation takes place for ten minutes after the first recess. This peaceful time helps us to relax, focus on God, and prepare for the middle learning session.

Christian Meditation aims to develop a loving relationship with Jesus and deepen our understanding of our true selves in relation to God.

The World Community for Christian Meditation (WCCM) website provides additional information if you would like to try meditation at home https://wccmaustralia.org.au/about-wccm

The late Pope Francis' Prayer Intentions

Pope Francis published his prayer intentions for each month at the beginning of the year. To honour the memory of Pope Francis, we will continue to publish his monthly prayer intentions until Pope Leo releases his monthly prayer intentions.  Please try to find some quiet time in your busy day to pray this prayer. Thank you.

For working conditions

Let us pray that through work,

each person might find fulfillment,

families might be sustained in dignity,

and that society might be humanized.

Amen
