From the Principal

TOMORROW - Welcome all 3 and 4 year olds to our FIRST Kinder Kids session for the year. 9am in the library!

Dear St Michael’s School families,

Prayer

Prayer to Mary, Help of Christians

Dear Mary, Help of Christians,

We come to you with love today.

You cared for Jesus every day,

Please help us walk His holy way.

Be our mother, gentle and kind,

Keep Jesus always in our mind.

When we're scared or feel alone,

Lead us safely to your Son’s throne.

Help our families, friends, and school,

Teach us to follow every rule.

Watch over us in all we do,

Dear Mary, we belong to you!

Amen.

NATIONAL SIMULTANEOUS STORYTIME

National Simultaneous Storytime is an annual event held in Australia and New Zealand, organized by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA). It involves millions of people reading the same picture book at the same time, across libraries, schools, childcare centers, and homes. The event aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, particularly for young children. This year we read The Truck Cat, a story about animals and humans, inspiring kindness and compassion everywhere.

THANK YOU

A huge thank you to all our families for sending the children in their full school uniform, especially the senior students who had to change after interschool sports! We had heaps of videos and photos taken and the children were amazing - all love their photos taken!! Many thanks! Annie

HOOP TIME

Congratulations to all the students who qualified for Hoop Time, after the tryouts over these past few weeks. Hoop Time, arranged by Basketball Victoria, brings together school students from across Victoria for single-day round robin tournaments held at local basketball stadiums. On Tuesday 27th May our Year Three/Four students will participate in their tournament, followed by our Five/Six students on Thursday 26th June. These days will be held at the Nunawading Basketball Stadium. Best of luck to them all!

2026 PREP ENROLMENTS

LEARNING DIFFICULTIES WORKSHOP

Advanced Psychology is offering a free information workshop to parents who are keen to understand more about their child's learning. If you are interested to find out more, see our Community News page for their flier.

NForma PARENT PORTAL - ADVICE OF STUDENT ABSENCE

A reminder to all families to please use the NForma Portal to notify the school when your child is going to be away or late or needs to be collected early. We understand this in a change in systems and appreciate the change in thinking around this.

GLEN IRIS DISTRICT CROSS COUNTRY

Congratulations to all the students who participated in the district Cross Country event on Tuesday this week. We were pleased to see some strong individual achievements on this day - Alex Burn (Year 6) placed 5th, and Annabelle Squire (Year 6) placed 4th and both qualified for the Division Cross Country round. Whilst overall we came in 5th position, all students put in a valiant effort and represented our school with determination and pride.

HEAD LICE

We have recently had two reports of head lice in the last 3 weeks at school which, thankfully, is very few. This is a perfect time, however to remind families about head lice and what to do if this occurs. Despite people's reactions when they hear about head lice, it's important to understand that it does not transmit any infectious diseases and, once treated, students may return to school. Head lice doesn't have a specific season, but tends to be more prevalent in schools after holiday breaks when children are close together and if they are sharing hats.

For further information and details about head lice, head to the Department of Health website.
