Principal's Report

Dear parents and carers,
Welcome back to our first newsletter for Term 2. This Principal’s report comes from Assistant Principal Liam Flanagan. I have taken on the role of Acting Principal for the last week or so, with Alison needing to take some unplanned leave.
The beginning to term 2 has been very busy, with some exciting events and educational opportunities having taken place so far.
In week 1 we had auditions for the Performing Arts Showcase that will take place later this term. Well done to all students that completed an audition, as it takes courage to perform for a group of teachers. Congratulations to the students that were able to secure a place performing on the night.
District Cross Country took place in week 2, with a contingent of close to 60 students participating and representing our school. We had a significant number of students finish in the top ten and qualify to move onto Division Cross Country in week 6. Best of luck to those who will compete at Division on Wednesday 28th June.
In week 3, we had a number of activities and events, including the Year 2 Olden Day Immersion Day, where students dressed up in clothes and learnt about what school and life was like in the past, compared to now. Year 6 students took part in a Eureka to Federation Incursion, where they learnt about the history of Australia from the Eureka Rebellion to Federation, including the significant events and people that led to Federation. Each of these events linked in with the history unit being taught to their year level.
We also had a wonderful Mother’s Day Stall, where students were able to purchase a gift to celebrate the special women in their lives, from mothers, to grandmothers and mother figures. A big thank you to the Parents and Friends Association for organising this event, which our students are always very excited about. We hope that everyone had a wonderful Mother’s Day over the weekend.
Throughout the term, Year 6 students have also continued to take part in Interschool Sport on a Friday morning. So far this term they have played games against Hillsmeade PS and Tulliallan PS. These home and away rounds are an important part of students learning the rules of a new sport, engaging in fair, but competitive play, and preparing for the Lightning Premiership whole day round robin sports event that will take place on Friday 13th June.
Another exciting feature that you may have noticed is the upgrade to our Bike Shed that took place over the holidays. The bike shed has moved to an undercover area, which will allow student’s bikes and scooters to remain dry as we enter the rainier months. As we move forward, we will be seeking student and community feedback about how we will make the most of the space left by our old bike storage area. Watch this space!
Finally, yesterday our School and Vice Captains will be engaging in the INSPIRE Leadership Day event at Bunjil Place, centred around the theme of connection and belonging. We hope that the day provided many opportunities for our student leaders to learn skills and strategies that will support their ongoing leadership journey.
Next week, we are looking forward to celebrating cultural diversity at our school and in our community, on World Day for Cultural Diversity- Wednesday 21st May. All students will have the opportunity to share information about their culture, as well as learning about that of their peers. Please see the attached flyer and information posted in this newsletter and on Compass.
As the term continues on, we are looking forward to many more rich educational opportunities for our students.
Kind regards,
Liam Flanagan
