Principal's Message

Dear Community,
Our Mother’s Day Breakfast was incredibly well attended, with a joyful, positive, and uplifting atmosphere that reflected the strength and spirit of our community. It was heartening to see so many families come together in celebration. On behalf of the college, I’d like to recognise just how special our school mums are, and also acknowledge the many people—grandparents, carers, aunties, siblings, and family friends—who play the role of a mother in a young person’s life. Your love and support mean the world to our students. Congratulations to Gemma Crane and Belinda Greer who were the wonderful recipients of our door prizes.
This week also marked the launch of our Term 2 Enrichment sessions for Years 7–10. Students are engaging in a fantastic range of clubs, including Cake My Day, Tie Dye, Pottery, Auslan, Pasifika Club, Japan Club, Trivia Club, and eGames. I was particularly impressed by the detailed beading work I saw from Oliana R and Ajlin Z—an excellent example of creativity and care in action.
We’ve started to receive a small portion of our NAPLAN data via the Principal portal, and I’m thrilled to share that our results are the strongest we have seen in several years, out performing our outstanding achievements last year. I’m especially proud of our Year 9 students—the Class of 2027—who have worked incredibly hard over the past two years. Families can look forward to accessing individual results in the coming weeks.
Our Year 7 Camp was a wonderful success. I had the pleasure of visiting the students last night, sharing a delicious butter chicken dinner, and watching Cars to wrap up the day. A standout moment was hearing from one of the camp instructors who praised Kayla B for her insightful explanation of “morphemes” when asked about their English studies. What a great example of learning beyond the classroom! I’m sure there will be some tired but happy campers returning home today.
We were also fortunate to have Amazon host an informative careers workshop with our Year 11 and 12 students who are exploring pathways in business and IT. I joined one of the sessions and was proud to hear thoughtful, curious questions from Madeleine R, Muhammed B, and Nyiel W.
I would also like to acknowledge the excellent work of Melanie Russell, who has been Acting Principal for the last few weeks while I have been on leave.
Finally, a reminder that assessment is now underway across all subjects as teachers prepare end-of-semester reports. Please continue using the assessment calendars to stay informed about upcoming tasks.
Wishing all our families a Happy Mother’s Day and a restful weekend ahead.
Warm regards,
Kath Sobey
