Mothers’ Day Breakfast!
Last Thursday the old building was buzzing with energy, hosting our 2025 Scotsburn Mothers’ Day Breakfast. It was incredible to see so many visitors pop in, with students doing an amazing job taking orders, serving and looking after their mothers and special friends.
We love every opportunity we have to bring the community together and this was a wonderful example of this. From the Scotsburn staff, we hope all of our mothers and caregivers enjoyed a wonderful Mothers’ Day, celebrating all that they do in supporting the lives of our students.
Pupil Free Day - this Friday 16th May
As you will be aware, there is no school for the kids on Friday. This day will be a professional learning day for staff at both campuses, with teachers visiting local schools that are working on similar priorities to ourselves (Pleasant St & Mt Blowhard primary schools). Then we’ll spend the afternoon together at the Academy of Teaching in Ballarat to discuss what was observed and what we can take from it. This is a wonderful opportunity for staff to build our capacity as teachers, continuing to learn and improve our practices.
Homework
Due to the pupil free day this Friday, we will have a slight change to our Homework arrangements this week. We will still have homework due on Thursday, however \next week’s homework will go home on Thursday.
This week’s homework is Specialist homework, which will be fun for the students to complete.
New School Wide Positive Behaviour Matrix
As mentioned in the Wellbeing section of this week’s newsletter, Buninyong Primary School is proud to share our updated School-Wide Positive Behaviour (SWPB) Matrix.
This matrix outlines the key behaviours we expect from all students across different settings at school, such as the classroom, playground, and shared spaces. It has been refined with input from staff and focus groups to ensure it is clear, age-appropriate, and meaningful for all students—from Prep to Year 6.
At Scotsburn this week, we have spent some time together re-familiarising the students with the Matrix and how it applies to Scotsburn. Our next step will be to have area-specific versions for students to refer to around the campus.
For more information regarding the Matrix, head to the Wellbeing section of this week’s newsletter.
Congratulations
Well done to Linc and Amity for being selected in the upcoming senior winter sports days. Linc will be participating in AFL, with Amity joining the Netball team. Good luck!
Toastie Tuesdays!
Another reminder that Toastie Tuesdays will continue every Tuesday, for the hefty price of $1! Don’t forget to send a gold coin on Tuesdays for those that would like a Toastie.
Buninyong Community Playgroup
We look forward to once again welcoming the Buninyong Community Playgroup for a few mornings this Term. See below for their upcoming schedule. For their second visit to Scotsburn, our students will join the playgroup for an interactive incursion from the Ballarat Art Gallery - how cool!
SC1 Learning Snapshot
Over the last week in SC1, it has been wonderful to have such a big focus on Kindness and Appreciation. With activities and events like Mothers’ Day Breakfast, Mothers’ Day Stall, Family Groups and Respectful Relationships, the students have had many opportunities to demonstrate gratitude as well as learn about the importance of celebrating others. It is lovely to see our Scotsburn students demonstrate such wonderful personal strengths and values.
Have a wonderful week!
SC2 Learning Snapshot
In Maths this week, students in SC2 have been taking their knowledge of Fractions to the next level! We Initially reminded ourselves about the properties of fractions, then moved onto comparing and ordering fractions using number lines. It has been incredible seeing all students challenge themselves with improper fractions and mixed numbers!
Last week we also welcomed Erin Dexter into SC2 on Tuesday. Lots of you will remember Erin from previous years in her work as an ES at Scotsburn. Erin is now back as a practising teacher, currently in her second year at university. She will be observing and teaching every Tuesday for the next few weeks, then completing 2 x 2 week teaching blocks. We love having you back Erin!
See you during the week,
Jarrod and Liz
Specialist Learning Snapshot
In Physical Education over the past two weeks, students have been learning lots about invasion games. Along the way we have been developing personal skills as well, including learning how to win and lose games graciously, playing by the rules, and encouraging others. Well done everyone!
Scotsburn Intercampus Travel At times, Scotsburn students will be transported between campuses in order to attend classes, assemblies, special days and events. On most occasions, transport required through the day will be by bus and occasionally private car for smaller groups of students. Parents may be asked to drop off or collect from the Buninyong campus if sessions are at the beginning or ending of a day.
We will always let you know of any upcoming travel arrangements via our newsletter, Compass, or via phone for smaller, more specific travel arrangements. If you ever have any questions or concerns regarding intercampus travel, please contact your child’s teacher. |
