Teaching and Learning

Due to our pupil free day this Friday we’ll need to change up our homework routine.
Homework is due on Thursday as usual, but new homework will also go home on Thursday, as students won’t be at school on Friday.
Due to the tight turn around there may not be time for classroom teachers to correct/provide feedback on this week’s homework so this will happen with next week’s homework.
If you have any questions regarding homework or homework routines, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s classroom teacher.
STUDENT REPORTING
As mentioned in recent issues of the school newsletter, this term parents and carers will be provided with a written report for your children, along with the opportunity to come along to a parent-teacher interview where you can meet with your child’s classroom and specialist teachers.
Please see below for those important dates:
Report timeline:
- Reports available on Compass - June 27th
- Parent-Teacher Interviews- June 30th: 4-6pm & July 2nd: 1:30-5pm (students dismissed 1pm)
Further information regarding making bookings for parent-teacher interviews will be communicated via the newsletter later in the term. As always, please give the office a call if you have any questions or require support to make your bookings.
Changes to Reporting for the Victorian Curriculum- Mathematics:
In your child's previous report, the teacher reported against the 3 strands of the achievement standard for mathematics (Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry, and Statistics and Probability)- see image below
Under the new Mathematics curriculum 2.0, your child’s teacher will report against the achievement standard as a whole, providing a single, aggregated score (as per image below)
As the achievement standards reported on have now changed, at the end of this semester when you receive a report under the Mathematics 2.0 curriculum for your child/ren, it will only show achievement and not progress. For all reports after this, progress will be shown against the single achievement standard.
The VCAA made these changes to help teachers plan their teaching and learning programs in mathematics, giving them more flexibility to support students to link ideas within mathematics and also with other curriculum areas. For further information, refer to the department’s policy on Reporting Student Achievement and Progress Foundation to 10.
