Principal's Report

CELEBRATING MOTHER’S DAY
It was a gorgeous day on Sunday, and we hope all of the mums in our school community had a lovely Mother’s Day.
It was really nice last week to see a range of things happening at both campuses in the lead up to Mother’s Day. Everything we can do to help students grow up to be thoughtful, kind and appreciative is worth the effort and celebrating our mums around Mother’s Day is a perfect opportunity to do just that.
The long standing tradition of our Scotsburn families to gather for a Mother’s Day Breakfast continued. As you can see from the photos, the Scotsburn community enjoy coming together for this event and making a fuss of the mums.
The second edition of a Mother’s Day Breakfast for our Buninyong campus mums was very successful. We had close to 190 in the Bowling Club, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed a delicious and relaxing breakfast. Our School Captains and Master Chef students did a brilliant job of helping to set up, serving food and clearing up. Thanks again to Tracey C for rustling up a great spread of food.
Later in the year, we’ll plan something for Father’s Day but expect it will look quite different….bacon and egg rolls on the BBQ maybe.
FRIDAY’S CURRICULUM DAY
As you’d be aware, there is no school for the kids on Friday. This is a professional learning day for staff. Our teachers will be visiting local schools that are working on similar priorities to ourselves (Pleasant St & Mt Blowhard primary schools). Then we’ll spend the afternoon together at the Academy of Teaching in Ballarat to discuss what was observed and what we can take from it.
It’s not often we get opportunities to step into other schools and observe practise in others’ classrooms, so it’s something we are all looking forward to.
Our teacher aides are heading in the opposite direction and will be taking a bus trip to Western Autistic School. This will be a great opportunity to learn from a team that is highly experienced and effective in meeting the needs of autistic children.
ASSEMBLY OF A NEW GREENHOUSE
Last year we were fortunate to receive a grant from the Buninyong Community Bank to purchase a greenhouse. The green house will be a brilliant addition to the Ready Set Grow program, enabling those involved to continue propagating and growing seedlings and plants through the winter months.
The green house has arrived, and this week Mark Dell (one of our parents) is laying a concrete slab that will form the foundations required.… thanks Mark.
On Monday (May 19), we are hoping to gather a small team to assemble the green house.
If you have a few skills and would be willing to help us out, we’d love to hear from you. Sadly, if it’s left to us (Simon, Mr Smith & myself), the greenhouse might not end up looking like the picture below ... .which would be sad.
If you’re willing and able to help out, please get in touch.
SOCCER PROVING POPULAR
A few months ago, we spoke about adding soccer goals at the Buninyong Campus and the intention to do the same at Scotsburn. Soccer has become very popular since the goals were installed. This is especially the case with the kids in grades 1 and 2, as you can see from the photos. They are doing a great job of learning the rules and having a red hot go, all while getting along and showing good sportsmanship.
