Singapore STEM Study Tour
During April, 25 lucky students and four dedicated staff went on an incredible 9 day adventure to Singapore. Here are some personal reflections from two students who attended:
The Singapore STEM study tour offered so many wonderful experiences. After months of planning and meetings to learn about the small country, nothing prepared us for the excitement of the flight, how impressive the tallest indoor waterfall at the Changi airport was or, the humidity when we stepped outside for the first time.
It was 9 days full of firsts as we soaked up the culture, spoke to locals and were guided through the very interesting history by Natalie our fantastic guide. We were amazed at how clean and safe Singapore was, litter was hard to find and it seemed as though people took genuine care of their land. It could also be the harsh penalties for illegal acts that has the locals so orderly.
We had many 'instagramable' moments, in front of wonderful statues, bridges, waterfalls and buildings - it seems as though the place was created for tourists to take photos. Gardens by the Bay was amazing due to the size and variety of the indoor gardens and another huge indoor waterfall. We walked Formula 1 Pitt lane, walked many gardens and saw everything from a great height in the Singapore Flyer. The day at Universal Studios is a day we will always remember…. no wait times, but to get there we rode the cable cars up and over everything.
Sustainabillity was a focus of our learning which included urban rooftop gardening, government strategies to keep cars off the road and water conservation in every building. The Wings of Time light show on Sentosa Island used sustainably accessed water as the screen for projecting an amazing 30 metre show. Finally the food! So many delicious meals and new tastes, from the hawker markets, street food, little India or the fancy buffet feasts, all of us stepped out of our comfort zone to try something new at one stage during the trip. Thank you to the teachers who came on the trip with us, it was an experience we won’t forget.

The Top Designs and Top Screens Excursion
An inspiring excursion for our Visual Communication & Design and Media students from St Joseph's College took place this week!
From critically assessing folio and final presentations at the Top Designs exhibition at the Melbourne Museum to engaging with interactive experiences at ACMI, our students were immersed in creativity and innovation. They explored the role of visual language and usability in design, sparking ideas to elevate their own projects.
The visit to the Bunjilaka Aboriginal Cultural Centre was enriching, fostering deeper intercultural understanding and reflections on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and their significance in design practice.
Our journey also included a viewing of Top Screens at ACMI, giving students a unique opportunity to engage with the next generation of filmmakers' work.
Such invaluable experiences are key in shaping the creative minds of tomorrow! 🌟
