Dates: Wednesday 2 - Thursday 3 July (Last week of Term 2)

Where: Melbourne

Purpose: All Year 10 students are provided the opportunity to engage in workshops, tours, and presentations to assist in exploring their future pathways.  This includes visiting TAFEs, universities and industry-based organisiations.

Information Session for Students: Period 2 - Tuesday 6 May

Students will be given all details of the workshops and activities that will be on offer at the camp.  Students will be provided with a copy of the slideshow with all the information, so please take the time to have some discussion around your child's interests to support them in preferencing their workshops/activities.

Student preferences for workshops and activities will then be completed during Learning Mentor time on Monday 12 May.  The students will be sent the preference link to complete during this time.

Year 10 Work Experience (not applicable to Yr 10-VM)

Thank you to all students who have completed their paperwork and submitted it to the Careers Office.  If your child is yet to make contact with an employer and complete their paperwork, please encourage and support them in this process. This needs to be completed as soon as possible. The Careers staff are available to support your child with any questions or concerns in securing their placement.

Work experience, together with the Careers Camp, are valuable opportunities for your child to build on their knowledge to support future pathway decisions.

Year 10 VM Excursions

During Term 1, Year 10 Vocational Minor (VM) students attended local excursions to hear about some of the employment opportunities that exist in their local community. Students heard from representatives from Campaspe Shire Council in the areas of roads, capital works, human resources, economic development, planning and community services.

Simplot provided students with a guided factory tour that focused on the areas of food production, engineering, automation, electrical and logistics.

Students also met with 2024 National Hotel Association Rising Star, Harry Rippon to further develop their understanding on the wide variety of career opportunities the hospitality industry can provide, and what it takes to excel and exceed in their chosen fields

The students and staff who attended the excursions would like to thank the businesses and representatives who gave up their time to assist our students.

Any businesses or industry that would be interested in hosting student excursions can contact the St Joseph's College Work Related Skills Team at careers@sje.vic.edu.au.

School-Based Apprenticeship Success Story

We'd like to congratulate Year 11 student Will Coghill who recently secured a School-Based Apprenticeship with Mundie Constructions in Rochester.

A School-Based Apprenticeship or Traineeship (SBAT) allows senior students to officially begin an apprenticeship while still at school. It’s a great way for students to make a start in their chosen field and take some time off the length of their apprenticeship before they've even left school. A SBAT typically involves the student undertaking two days at a workplace and three days at school, with the goal of progressing to full-time employment when they finish school.

A huge thank you to Adam and Laura Mundie for taking Will on - we hope you all find the process rewarding.

Any students or employers who are interested in finding out more about our SBAT program are encouraged to contact the Work Related Skills Team.
