Mastering Times Tables – and Rocking It! 🎸✖️➗

One of the most valuable things children can learn in primary school maths is how to automatically recall their times tables

This means not having to count through answers but instead just knowing that 7 × 8 = 56 or 6 × 4 = 24 instantly. This kind of quick, confident recall is a game-changer – freeing up students’ brainpower so they can focus on solving problems, thinking strategically, and applying their knowledge in more advanced tasks.

To support this, we’ve launched Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS) with all students in Years 2–6! This brilliant online program turns times tables practice into an exciting, fast-paced game where children can challenge themselves, climb leaderboards, customise their rock star avatars and, most importantly, rapidly improve their multiplication fluency.

Students should now have brought home their logins, and we strongly encourage them to play a few times a week at home. Even 5–10 minutes a day makes a huge difference! Research has shown that students using TTRS consistently make significant gains in recall speed and accuracy – and most importantly, they love it!

At home, families can support by:

  • Encouraging short, regular sessions of gameplay.
  • Asking quick-fire multiplication questions to test fluency.
  • Celebrating milestones or new high scores!

Let’s work together to help every SKiPPS student become a Times Tables Rock Star – because confident, fluent times tables knowledge builds the foundations for success across all areas of maths.
