Camp Angahook 2024 Highlights
On the 14th of February I woke up buzzing with excitement. Why? because I knew I had a fun-filled few days ahead.
I hastily sprung out of bed and started getting ready like clock work. I raced downstairs to have a nutritious breakfast. I shoved a piece of sourdough into the toaster then… Ping! I drizzled a thin layer on the bread above a fresh coat of melted butter and hastily gobbled it up. After getting ready, I flew into the car trying to get to school as fast as possible. Mum parked the car and I dragged my luggage through the gates and into the Maguire hall. We said our goodbyes and hopped on the bus. I felt the camp energy surging through my body.

As soon as I arrived at school, I dashed into the hall. I said bye to my mum and immediately sped over to my friends. We waited and waited. It felt like an eternity. Finally the bus had arrived!

We arrived at the Angle Sea! After the beach olympics, we started to walk back to our camp and on the way we played Taylor Swift, ‘YAY!! ‘ I shouted, while I was listening and singing along to the best singer in history! Finally, we arrived at the most amazing camp ever. It was mind blowing! I devoured my food, ran back to my cabin and got ready for bed. I fell asleep just like a baby.☺️

Big Swing
For a while I needed to pull a few of my classmates up then it was my turn. I felt a rush of adrenaline come up my back. The instructor counted ‘3,2,1’ and boom, I was falling freely down! What a rush! I went to the top twice and had twice the amount of fun! It was unforgettable.

Archery
When we were doing archery, one by one we practiced hitting the bullseye. After that, we had a competition. We got into two teams; my team was called the cobras. The other team was called the flamin’ galahs, sadly they won! For archery you need power, consistency and a steady hand!

Low ropes
One of the activities was low ropes, we had to walk acrossthe wobbly ropes in different courses. It was really hard, we had spotters just in case you fell, plus we had to wear a helmet to be safe! Low ropes were all about teamwork and balance!
Jobe 4L
For our final dinner, the girls from our cabin served the food(chicken and vegetables!) and we had soft chocolate mousse that melted in my mouth for dessert! A while later we went to the gaming room and watched Shrek! Movie night! I felt exhausted then and went to bed. The day went so quickly! People say ”time flies too when you are having fun!”.

Final day
Finally, we went canoeing. I was so excited I was almost going to burst! 🔥
When Harvey and I got in the canoe I felt confident. I had been canoeing so many times being a sea scout. Apart from crashing into a few mudbanks and a war with the teachers it came to peace eventually we were fine!! (Seb 4L) It was time to head home and reunite with our families.
You will never believe how impeccable Angahook Holiday Camp was!
We left at 9:00AM and travelled there on the 14th to the 16th of February 2024. 4G and all the Galilee staff that came made it the best camp ever!!!!!!! The teachers were Miss Greenan, Miss Leahy, Ms Burns and Miss Evans, Mr Greene and Mr Gettings. We travelled there by bus both ways to have an exquisite time.
Firstly, we all went to the Maguire Hall and waited for a long time (it felt like an eternity.)
I hopped on the bus, proud that I made it today. We did bus chants (started by Jobe and I)
We finally got there. No not to the exquisite Angahook Holiday Camp, but to our first stop for an unforgettable snack time experience.

In Geelong, everyone was trying to catch butterflies but I didn't want to bother them. Eventually we got back on the bus. I sat next to my nice old mate Lorenzo. We call him Loz for short. We were laughing the whole bus ride. I said to him:
‘What did I say when someone stole my cheese’
‘Nacho cheese’
We stopped at the beach for the beach olympics. 4L won the tug of war but 4G won the race. Whooo!
Harry 4G
We all played for a bit and then a man named Luke appeared and led us to the lighthouse and then down to the beach. At the beach we played fun beach games and had a sandcastle contest. We all got quite wet and sandy.
Afterwards we all walked off the beach and started walking to our camp. It may have taken a while to walk but after a few minutes we made it.
After that we were all getting sorted in our bunk bed rooms. We all unpacked our suitcases and I was lucky because I got the top bunk bed. Then after we got sorted we had dinner for dinner we had spaghetti and jelly for dessert.
When we finished our dinner we all went to our bunk rooms and it
was time to go to sleep.

Day 2:
I heard whispering voices chatter above me and around me, while I opened my eyes and saw that it was officially morning. So then I got up, dressed myself like all my other friends did in the cabin. As well as changing we also brushed our teeth and went to the bathroom.
Later on, we got sorted into our group for the activities. The activities were the giant swing, low ropes, archery, hut building and mountain biking but some of the activities were done after morning tea and lunch including mountain biking, low ropes and hut building. The activities were unforgettable.
Claire 4G
After we digested our food the instructors: Luke,Tex,Angus,Audrey and Richie all announced what the activities were for today. Everyone was super energetic after they heard: Giant swing!
Valentino 4G
First up we did a load of rotation activities. The first activity my group and I did was hut building. Me and my group, Tristan, Ella, and Willow, thought we made a really sturdy hut. In addition, we were ready to test it. When Ms Burns poured the water on us we all got totally soaked therefore it wasn't a very sturdy hut, however we had an amazing time building huts.
Samuel 4G
My team's first activity was low ropes . It was challenging but I got there in the end with my team.
Rosie 4G
Afterward we did the giant swing. Our instructor Richie told us the instructions for the giant swing. For our group Lachie went first so then we pulled on the rope so he would go high. When it was my turn I chose the highest, like most of the people in my group did so when it happened my instructor counted down and 3…2…1 and it unleashed. My tummy felt like it dropped but it was extremely fun and high. The view from the top was so beautiful but it was a little bit scary.
Claire 4G
Lastly, we were on archery, I was feeling confident about bows and arrows. When it was my turn I shot at the white part, I was already getting better. A tip is that you have to aim lower than you expect, now we are doing it boys vs girls! The girls team was Slay Queens and the boys team was Eggplants Are Yellow, the Slay queen team won!

Day 3:
On the last morning I was woken up by one of the cabins on either the 4G boys, 4L boys, 4L girls or the 4G girls in my cabin. For breakfast we all had the choice to be in the duty group but only if you didn't do duty for the past few days. My duty group person was Josh. Josh and Claire and Lara T on his table.
Sophie 4G
After breakfast, we went to the chess area and dumped our bags outside 4L girls room waiting for the mini bus to arrive so we could go canoeing. Finally it was my group's turn to get on the minibus. It took 5 minutes to get there. I was Sam’s partner and we were flying through the river.
After canoeing, we had to walk back to camp which was really exhausting and my legs were so sore and felt like they were going to fall off. While the other groups were canoeing we were playing games with the instructor. The other groups came back after half an hour and we had morning tea.
Joshua 4G
Oh my! What a great day on camp! I have to say it was the best day because it was my birthday.
Willow 4G
Overall we loved camp. It was an amazing experience we will never forget! We can't wait for the next amazing experience at another camp. We wish we could do it again.

We're excited to introduce our dedicated STEM leaders!
Our leaders have a big responsibility around the school. Not only will they help us navigate technology in our classrooms (now that we have 1:1 devices), the students will focus on enhancing our garden, and leading the sustainability in our classrooms!
We will meet regularly with each other to discuss any matters that arise from these areas, and together we will discuss and make decisions! I know our STEM leaders will do an amazing job!
Congratulations to these students and we wish you every success with your new roles. Well done to the other students that put themselves forward also!

Writer’s Notebook
This year, we have implemented the Writer's Notebook into our Writing Workshop. Each child from Prep to Year 6 (as well as each teacher) has been given their very own Notebook. Writer’s Notebooks are used for idea generation and inspiration. Students are in charge of their notebook and can use it to gather and record inspirations, questions, descriptions, sketches, wow words, feelings, quotes, wonderings and artifacts. These are called our writing ‘sparks’ and from these sparks our writing ideas will grow.
Over the year, classroom teachers will model how to collect and develop sparks so that they can be used in writing pieces. Sparks provide students with the opportunity to write for an authentic purpose and engages them in the writing process. The Writer’s Notebook is an essential tool for the students as writers and they will be using them daily.
Students are encouraged to collect sparks at home to bring into the classroom. The home/school partnership is valued and fostered by bringing writing inspiration to school from their daily lives. A spark might be a ticket from a special activity, a birthday card, song lyrics, a photograph, a feather or a pamphlet.
