Assistant Principal Report Senior School

by Aaron Petersen

Year 12 Jumpers

Year 12 students received their jumpers last week and started wearing them straight away, despite the heat in recent days. The jumpers are official school uniform.  They make the students highly  visible to the general-public and therefore they need to behave appropriately at all times.

New Assistant Principal

In 2024 we welcome Mr Aaron Petersen who has been appointed as Assistant Principal, Senior School and Student Voice and Agency. Aaron has previously been the assistant principal at Glen Eira College for six years and has previously worked at Lauriston Girls School and Carwatha College P-12 in a range of teaching and  leadership positions.

This year the Year 12 Formal will be held on Friday 15th March (week 7) from 6:30pm at Merrimu Reception in Murrumbeena. This promises to be a memorable evening celebrating the class of 2024.   Students will be dismissed from school at lunchtime on Friday 15th March. Classes will run as normal until lunchtime and no student will be given permission to miss classes on the day or in the lead up to the function in order to prepare for the function.

Our Year 12 camp takes place in early Term 2 and is 3 days in duration.  Based at The Summit Camp, this is a chance for Year 12 students to refocus and prepare for their final year at Parkdale Secondary College.  Information will be distributed to families shortly.

College leaders

Congratulations to our senior student leadership team who were presented with their badges at last week’s whole school assembly.  We expect a lot from our student leaders and so it is a big responsibility and requires real commitment. We look forward to seeing our leaders actively leading our student body throughout 2024.

Unit 3/4 Students Applying for Special Arrangements from The VCAA

During Rollover last year, one of the VCAA process discussed with students was the application process for special provisions with the VCAA. This is for Unit 3 and 4 external assessments and the General Achievement Test (GAT). The prime consideration is the impact of a disability and/or illness on the student’s capacity to undertake their VCE external assessments. The VCAA will not grant Special Examination Arrangements to students who have long-term impairments where there has been no demonstrated requirement for the arrangements at school.

Applications to the VCAA for Special Examination Arrangements have strict documentation and submission guidelines. Students who think they might be eligible for special provisions must complete an application by 28th February 2024.  Applications must be submitted to VCAA with appropriate supporting medical, psychological and educational documentation. Please read the information provided on Compass and if you have further questions or believe you are eligible to submit an application, please see Ms. Faya Mrad to ensure you have the required forms that need to be completed to meet the strict deadline.
