Teaching and Learning

It has been pleasing to see a relative calm around the school as students have engaged back in lessons.  There has been a real focus from staff on ensuring a ‘strong start’ to lessons. Attention and focus is a vital component of the learning process.  For this to occur, a calm, orderly and safe classroom is an essential foundation.

A priority for us has been to ensure this is occurring in the Junior Learning Centre as our year 7 students make the transition to secondary school.  A team of school leaders has been observing student entry and lesson start routines for the past fortnight.  It has been pleasing to see that vast majority of students have been following the set routines of:

  • Sensibly lining up in their designated space.
  • Calmly entering classroom as directed.
  • Standing behind chairs waiting to sit together.
  • Promptly beginning work as quickly as instructed.

This will continue to be a focus as we approach mid-term to ensure all students have the conditions to get the most of their learning time.
