STEP F1 Racing

Our F1 racing students have started out this year with a bang.

This year they can choose between 3 different competitions to compete in.

Our own Parkdale F1 Competition,
Quantum Victoria Print-A-Car Competition, and
F1 in schools State Final Competition

All these competitions require our students to design a race car using CAD software and produce a portfolio.

We can’t wait to see what the F1 racing students come up with this semester!

STEP Forensics

Our Forensics students have been hard at work this Semester, already having been on an excursion to Quantum Victoria for a day of Solving a Crime, where they had to listen to police interviews, check alibis, check fingerprints, blood types, soil sampling, trace fibres, shoe impressions and GPS tracking, among other things. They need to use their deductive reasoning to solve the crime.

What a fantastic day! We have also completed some morning sessions including fingerprinting and blood spatter. Well done everyone on a fabulous start to our program!

The nights were a great success with many positive relationships developed and copious amounts of information shared. \u003c/p>\u003cp> \u003c/p>\u003cp>\u003cstrong>Year 8\u003c/strong>\u003c/p>\u003cp>The Year 8s have made a strong start to their second year at Parkdale Secondary College, especially regarding the wearing of the correct school uniform, their organisational levels and classroom behaviour.\u003c/p>\u003cp>Last week the Year 8 students completed their first round of interschool sports, competing against Mordialloc College in volleyball, cricket, baseball, softball and tennis. It was great to see all of the students showing many of our Parkdale Principles including participation and probity throughout their sporting efforts. Along with the above-mentioned sports, a number of year 8 students participated in activities including trampolining, mixed sports and fitness.\u003c/p>\u003cp>It is so great to see the Year 8s make such a great start to 2024 and I look forward to seeing this trend continue and develop throughout the rest of this term.\u003c/p>\u003cp> \u003c/p>\u003cp>\u003cstrong>Year 9\u003c/strong>\u003c/p>\u003cp>The Year 9s have made a very positive start to 2024 making the E-Wing their own. It was a wonderful sight on the morning of Tuesday 6th February as we welcomed all staff and students back to school at the whole school assembly. Being the first assembly, we introduced and invested the 2024 school leaders. It was also pleasing to see their parents attending the assembly to witness this event. Both the school captains and myself gave speeches with the message that the students in 2024 need to challenge themselves, set goals and work towards them. CAPITAL WORKSReturning to school in late January I was disappointed to see that no work had commenced on the area to the east of the new building. Despite starting the discussions with the Victorian Schools Building Authority back in February 2023 work still hadn’t commenced as the wheels of the bureaucracy seemed to turn very slowly.I have now been informed that the work will commence in the coming weeks. MOBILE PHONE POLICYA reminder regarding the mobile phone policy. Students are to place their phones in their locker when they arrive at school. The phone is then not to be used until the end of the school day. This is in line with the directive from the Department of Education. BUSESAgain, I remind students that travel on the buses to school, in particular those students that use the dedicated buses that pick and drop off in the turning circle at the front of the school that this not a free service. The number of buses and the type of bus provided are determined by student usage. This figured is determined by the touching on and off of the MYKI card. Yes, the buses are getting crowded but the other day I watched, and it was confirmed by the bus driver, that the very full bus had only two students touch on. Additional buses will not be provided unless the patronage figures as provided by MYKI reflect the true number of students. ACCIDENT INSURANCEI wish to remind Parents/Guardians that the Department of Education and Parkdale Secondary College do not provide personal accident insurance for students. Parents/Guardians are responsible for paying the cost of medical treatment for injured students, including any transport and ambulance costs. Student accident insurance policies are available from some commercial insurers and these cover a range of medical expenses not covered by Medicare or private health insurance. PRIVATE PROPERTYPrivate property brought to school by students eg: mobile phones, ipods, laptops etc. are not covered by school insurance, and that it is not the responsibility of the Department of Education and the College if that property is lost, stolen or damaged.
