Principal's Report

Dear Parents & Carers,

It’s been such a wonderful start to the year and the school is just so settled already. I’m so very impressed with the our new Preps who are already in a routine and doing plenty of work, which is the WYPS way of doing things.

I’m already doing plenty of tours which I think is because of how well thought of the school is in the valley, (I got two emails on January 1st requesting a tour, which I thought was amazing). Some parents are worried that they won’t be able to get in the school if they live outside our zone. Although our places are shrinking, we are still allowed to accept families from outside our zone as long as we have space.

I’d like to again say how much I appreciate you all being so patient with our building project. I think you are all amazing and much more patient then I am. The basketball courts are coming but I’m like the kids………….I just want them now.

ASH GIBBONS IS NOW MARRIED

On the weekend Ash (affectionately know as Dash) was married at a beautiful ceremony in Coldstream. I felt privileged to watch Dash marry his childhood sweetheart and beautiful bride Holly. As one of the students told Mr Gibbons. Just remember, happy wife, happy life. Congratulations to Ash and Holly.

WILSON’S PROMONTORY CAMP

This week our grade 5/6 students are on camp in one of the most beautiful places in the world, Wilsons Promontory. Below are some photos of the week.  You can definitely tell they are having a ball. We have always had the moto here that every child needs to go to Wilsons Prom as it will leave a life long memory for them.

BUDDY READING AT WYPS

A small number of our grade six students have had special training with Mary Menta to become buddy reading tutors. Buddy reading happens for a short time in the afternoons with the grade six tutors reading with and to some grade 1’s and grade 2’s. The feedback from both is brilliant at this early stage.

PARENT VOLUTEERS

This year we are excited to have our parent volunteers start again. As part of our ongoing commitment to providing the best educational experience for our students, we are reaching out to all parents and carers to ask for your assistance in supporting our students' learning journey. Your involvement in your child’s education is extremely important and can greatly enhance student learning and understanding. We are looking for parent volunteers to help in a range of classroom activities across all year levels.  Specifically, we are looking for volunteers who can help with some of the following:

  1. Read with our students. Helping them with reading comprehension and fluency.
  2. Support students in using the library and obtaining their readers.
  3. Provide support with students’ spelling words.
  4. Help students practice their timetables and maths concepts.

No prior experience is required, but all volunteers must complete a Chid Safe Session with Flick and have or be willing to obtain a Working with Children's Check to uphold safety standards.

If you're interested in lending a hand, please reach out to Penny Fredericks or the school office.

We appreciate your support in creating a wonderful learning environment for all our students.

JUNIOR SCHOOL COUNCIL

The following students have been elected to our JSC as class representatives and received their badges at assembly last week. JSC is one of the ways we have for students to have a voice in the way their school runs. Ben Eaton is the teacher in charge of JSC this year. I know Ben is looking forward to collaborating with these wonderful children that can’t wait to change the school and the world. Congratulations to the following students for being elected in their class:

ANNUAL PRIVACY REMINDER FOR OUR SCHOOL COMMUNITY

Our school collects and uses student and parent personal information for standard school functions or where permitted by law, as stated in the Schools’ Privacy Policy and the Schools’ Privacy Collection Notice (see our website for the policies). Our Photographing, Filming and Recording Students Policy, describes how we collect and use photographs, video and recordings of students. The policy also explains when parent consent is required and how it can be provided and withdrawn. We ask parents to also review the guidance we provide on how we use the internet safely at the school and what parents can do to further protect their child’s information. If after reviewing the guidance, you have any questions or concerns, please contact the school.  This week I will sign off with my normal line but I will also add my favourite moment of last week. While I was at the kiss and drop one of our grade 2 students Shaylah waited and then gave one of our new students Elissa a Valentines card. When Shaylah gave it to her, Elissa said thanks bestie and they gave each other a hug. It was such a kind moment. We need more Woori magic to make the world a better place!

And remember when life gets a little difficult escape to the wonderful world of a book!
