RESIDENTIAL

BERNIE MURNANE

It has been a busy start to the year in the Residence.

Firstly, we would like to welcome back all our returning students for the year, we hope everyone had a great break. Speaking with many of the students, lots of them were busy out working and making money to finance vehicles, fuel and all the other associated costs of owning a car.

Students have settled into boarding with relative ease, making new friends and reacquainting themselves with old friends.

Welcome

To all our new students and their families, a big warm welcome to the “Aggies” family. We have had very few issues in settling in and getting use to the routines and longer days.

REACH Leave

REACH is the electronic system we use for all leaves from the College, it is a wonderful tool and as yet we are not having many issues with it.

We ask that the students apply for their own leave applications, as it gives them some responsibility in planning and organisational skills. It also keeps lines of communications open with the students and their parents, making it easier when all parents need to do is press accept/or decline if it is incorrect.

Fire Drill

The Boarders were involved in a fire drill on Monday evening.  This was to familiarise themselves with our procedures and processes and get in some practice of what to do in the event of a fire.

This was quite well supported by most students; however some treated it as a joke. We will need to continue to practice these until we can consistently evacuate everyone safely to the muster point in good time and ensure everyone is accounted for as quickly as possible.

Weekend Activities

Last weekend we had a fabulous weekend in boarding, with everyone heading off to Eaton Fair on Friday after dinner taking an opportunity to stock up on supplies.

On Saturday students went on a guided tour around Harvey, with running commentary from long time resident Mr Bill Jones. Bill explained about the industries, landmarks and pointed out a few things that the students would need to know about the town, followed by lunch at the town pool. Saturday evening a movie was set up on the big screen.

Sunday saw everyone travel out to Binningup beach for the morning.

Returning form Leave

Just a quick reminder that if you are returning your child early after a leave, please give Residential staff a call as sometimes they may take the opportunity with nice weather of running out to the beach  with no students expected back for several hours. It can and does also directly affect the catering division as it did last Sunday evening when there were 10 extra students for the meal than was expected.
