"M&M" Magic and Music - Term 1 focus

MAGIC.... Tim the Magician is coming next Thursday to perform to the whole school (and let us in on a few magic trick secrets..shhhh!). Parents, please consent via compass if you have not done so already. 

Prep-One-Two: We will be learning some tricks to impress your parents and buddies

Grade Three - Fours: We will be practising tricks with slight of hand and confident delivery

Grade Five-Six: Are preparing some tricks to perform to the P-2s in their own Magic show! 

MUSIC... We will be using 2 cultural songs across the school to teach beat, rhythm, pitch and harmonising with increasing complexity. The instruments are out, the ribbon wands are ready and we are focused on listening carefully to each others' voices and the instruments to make our teamwork really shine. There will be plenty of opportunity for creating rhythms, composing and changing elements to communicate ideas. Hopefully we can share a performance across the school later in the term.

Shrek Jr Production

We have leapt into rehearsals! It's been great to see the enthusiasm of students this week in learning their position and song lines. Whilst we are finalising roles, it's really important students let us know if they are no longer interested in participating. Final commitment and payment is due in a few weeks - more information to come.

We are working on a 2 week notice for rehearsals.  We cannot provide a blanket Tuesday Ensemble and Principal Thursday or vice versa as it is dependent on the availability of the Artistic team - which varies from week to week. I will make announcements over the PA system as a reminder at 1:25pm but please add these to your family calendars as children remember best with prior reminding. 

Children have now been divided up into Vocal groups - EMERALD and JADE.  They will be divided further into WOODLAND CREATURES (WC) or FAIRYTALE CHARACTERS (FTC). We will send out a full list next week to help parents.  

It would be really good if your children could start to familiarise themselves with the music from the show.  To enable this - we have created a SHREK PRODUCTION FOLDER with lots of useful goodies in there - so keep the link handy.

Here you will find the following:

1/ LYRICS FOLDER - All the lyrics for the Ensemble.  The lyrics will identify what EMERALD sing and what JADE SING. There are PDF files and Pages files (for those on a Mac)

2/ MUSIC - Here you will find Shrek Accompaniment -  This has the backing tracks for your child to practice with.  There is NO SINGING on these tracks

- Shrek Guide Vocals -  This has people singing so you can sing along with someone

- SONG GUIDE Tracks with Vocals.  THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT VOCAL FOLDER.  It has Erica and Isla singing all the parts for each of the groups EG JADE or EMERALD.  If you are in JADE - listen to all the JADE TRACKS or if you are in EMERALD - Listen to the EMERALD TRACKS.

3/ SCENE BREAKDOWN - Print this out and put it in your show folder so you know what scenes are coming up and what you are in.

4/ VIDEOS - This is where we will put videos of dances and things you can watch and practice.

NOTE: Rehearsals will mainly occur on Tuesday and Thursday lunchtimes for Term 1. Holiday rehearsals - Friday 12th and Saturday 13th April (last weekend of Term 1 holidays).
