When you enter the zone, you will find a wealth of information about all the things happening in the Wellbeing space at Sunshine Heights PS as well as strategies, articles, book recommendations and events that will help build our dream and culture of Wellbeing throughout our school community, inside and outside of school, so that we can sail together through a universe of possibilities with all the emotional and social skills we need to thrive. 

Welcome Back 

Dearest Sunny Heights families, 

Welcome back to the 2024 school year. 

We hope you all had a wonderful break and were able to refuel the tanks and find some moments of joy together. 

My holidays were a beautiful mix of friends, pets, family, art and music, and a whole lot of house painting and renovating (the latter, I don't recommend, haha!). 

The break has definitely put the spring back into my step and I can't wait to be able to support you and your children throughout 2024.

Smile Squad Returns 

This term will see the return of the Cohealth Smile Squad team, who are heading back to our school to complete six-monthly fluoride varnish applications for those students who have provided consent in 2023 and participated in last year's program. 

Fluoride varnish applications help make sure students have the best chance of preventing tooth decay, so we’re excited Smile Squad are coming back. 

Consent for this fluoride varnish application was provided when students’ initial consent forms were returned last year for students who participated in the 2023 Smile Squad program. However, if anyone has changed their mind and do not wish to receive a fluoride varnish application, they can contact Cohealth directly to let them know.Please contact the Smile Squad team via:

Inclusion Works & Happy Space Speech Pathology 

We are super excited to welcome an A-Team of supports to our school across 2024, having established two new amazing partnerships. 

This year, we will be involved in the Inclusion Works program, which is a year-long, school wide teacher professional learning program, designed to support teachers and school leaders to select, adapt and implement evidence-based behaviour support strategies through the delivery of customised workshops and in-classroom professional learning and coaching. 

Claire, a behaviour specialist from Learning for Life, will be joining us every Thursday providing targeted coaching and whole school professional learning to help us best support all students and build inclusive environments. 

We also welcome, Liv, a speech pathologist from Happy Space Allied Health, who will be with us each Thursday too. She will be working in our school offering individual speech therapy to students who have signed up for the program when we sent out our expression of interest last term. 

If you missed the information last year, there is still time to sign up!  

• Does your child have NDIS funding or are you looking for a private speech?
• Does your child need support to develop their speech and language skills?
• Are you interested in school-based speech pathology sessions with an amazing speech pathologist?

Mackillop Family Services 2024 Parenting Workshops

The Term 1, 2024 parenting program is here! They have over 6 courses and workshops coming-up including:

• Tuning into Kids 
• Circle of Security 
• Bringing up Great Kids 
• The New Age Parent: Managing Screen Time 
• The Informed Parent: Managing Challenging Behaviour 

Places are limited, so please ensure all clients register as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

Long Service Leave Term 1

A heads up that I will be taking 3 weeks of long service leave this term, bound for Japan! 

I will be on leave from 19th February and returning to school on Tuesday 12th March 2024. 

Rest assured, during my leave, there'll be plenty of people stepping in to support you and your child with Wellbeing and Inclusion and queries during this time can be directed to the school email on sunshine.heights.ps@education.vic.gov.au
