Welcome to Term 3

A Season of Competition, Commitment and Community

Welcome back to Term 3, a term that promises spirited competition, new opportunities and plenty of Croc pride as the QGSSSA Winter Fixtures and Club Sport competitions get underway. We hope our students, families and staff enjoyed a refreshing break and return ready for another exciting season of sport.

This Saturday 18 July, marks the beginning of the 2026 QGSSSA Winter season against Brisbane Girls Grammar School across Hockey, Netball, Tennis and Volleyball. After a productive pre-season, our athletes are eager to begin another exciting campaign and proudly represent the College.

Our BBI Club Basketball teams also return to the court this weekend as the Winter competition resumes across Friday evening and Saturday, continuing what promises to be another exciting season. We thank our players and families for their ongoing commitment to the Club program.

Our Mountain Biking program also returns to action this weekend, with riders travelling to the Sunshine Coast on Sunday to participate in the Rocky Trail Academy Sunshine Coast Race Familiarisation Session. The course preview will provide valuable opportunities for riders to refine technical skills, explore race lines and build confidence ahead of the upcoming Rocky Trail Schools Series event.

In parallel, QGSSSA Athletics preparations are also well underway, with students continuing to develop their speed, strength and event-specific skills as they build towards the QGSSSA Athletics Championships on Thursday 17 September. At the same time, our Secondary boys have the opportunity to prepare for the upcoming Central District Athletics Trials, where they will be aiming to earn selection in the representative pathway and progress to the next level of competition. We encourage all interested athletes to get involved.

Families are reminded that the Clayfield College App remains the central hub for all sport communication, including fixtures, training schedules, venues and important updates. We encourage all families to ensure notifications are enabled throughout the term. Go Crocs!

Leading the way was Christina Anictomatis, who delivered a superb two-day campaign to be crowned Australian Champion in the Developing International (16+ Years) division. Demonstrating exceptional consistency across all apparatus, Christina claimed the All Around National Championship with an outstanding score of 96.197.

Queensland Athletics State Cross Country Championships

Siblings Grace (Year 8) and Xavier Hunter (Year 9) continued their outstanding cross country campaigns at the Queensland Athletics State Cross Country Championships in Jimboomba, delivering impressive performances against the state's strongest distance runners.

Fresh from another exceptional season, Grace Hunter added to her growing list of achievements, claiming the bronze medal in the Under 14 Girls with a superb run in 10:43.3. Grace once again demonstrated why she is regarded as one of Queensland's leading junior distance athletes. Her consistent performances throughout the season provide an excellent platform as she now turns her attention to the Athletics Australia National Cross Country Championships in Ballarat this August.

Older brother Xavier Hunter also continued his impressive season, producing another composed performance to finish 8th in the highly competitive Under 17 Boys race. Xavier's result reflects the consistency and commitment he has shown throughout the year and positions him well as he continues his preparations for the National Championships.

The Hunter siblings have become a formidable force within Queensland cross country, with both athletes continuing to showcase the benefits of disciplined preparation, race maturity and an unwavering passion for distance running. Clayfield College wishes Grace and Xavier every success as they prepare to represent Queensland on the national stage in Ballarat.
