Sport report Term 2 2026

Term 2 went off with a bang. It was busy from the day the students returned this term. We had two carnivals and multiple knockout sport competitions happening throughout the term that made it jam packed and full of excitement.

Cross country carnival

On the first Friday we held our annual Cross country carnival. The weather was kind to us and allowed us to have a spectacular day with student attendance being one of the highest to date. With the success of how well the carnival ran last year with the new structure, we continued with the same process, and it was another hit. This year, we had seen the highest number of students competing competitively which was fantastic to see. It was the perfect day to be out being active and embracing the sunshine that we were lucky to have.

Unfortunately, due to the number of times the zone cross country had to be postponed due to the weather, this impacted the number of students who were able to represent our school. We had 36 students who represented at the zone carnival, which was held at Onslow Oval, Camden.

Congratulations to the following students who were successful in finishing in the top 10 for their age group. Zayden Martin finishing 10th in the 12 years, Jayden Cresswell finishing 10th in the 18 years, and Taitum Whiu, Aiesha Orgo, Andrew Nelson, Ryan Ferguson, Joshua Webb, Zara Latta and Elijah Jeffrey Chaffey all successful in the Multi Class division.

Taitum and Aiesha competed at the SSW in the Multi Class division and should be extremely proud of their efforts in the competition. Unfortunately, Paris had missed out of progressing further with placing 16th out of 51 athletes. A massive congratulations to both as they will be competing at the CHS All Schools Championships early next term. We all wish Taitum and Aiesha the best of luck and we are proud of what they have achieved no matter the result.

Athletics carnival

For the most anticipated carnival held each year, it as time for our athletics carnival to happen. It was a fantastic day with many students in attendance. We were very fortunate to have yet another glorious day with the sun shining to take the cold morning chill out of it for the day.

The hype leading up to the carnival was all about the records. The competitive nature of the students was in full swing with them wanting to know what the current records were for their age group. This makes the carnivals more enjoyable when they are working towards having their name printed in the record book for the year. We had a massive 29 records broken this year. This is an achievement that should be recognised! A special mention to Indy-Rose Lousick of Year 7 and Shae-Lee Bugatto of Year 10 who both broke a total of 4 records each. We are looking forward to seeing even more records broken next year!

Our zone carnival is held in the last week of this term, and we have a massive 88 students potentially representing our school which allows TRED to truly demonstrate their athletic ability at the competition.

Tuesday sport

In term 2 we introduced opportunities for students to pick recreational activities that were held offsite. They started in Week 6 to Week 10 and they were a success. During the term, we had been unlucky in some weeks with the weather which had prevented us from running our weekly sports and schedules.

Stage 4 and 5 students participated in mixed sports at school, offsite walking and Laser Tag / Arcade at Kingpin Macarthur. This was something new that we trialled this year to have these opportunities for students for two terms in the year.

I encourage students to choose a different sport that they would not usually play to challenge themselves in their skill and development. Remember, sport is meant to be fun and engaging and you only get what you put in. A reminder to all students that each week in competitive sports, teachers will be awarding MVP points to 3 students who deserve the nominations. These points are collated over the term and will be recognised for their achievements.

Due to some timetable changes, students will be reselecting their sports for Term 3 before the end of the term. All sport options for Term 3 will be onsite at school only.

State-Wide Competition

This term has been extremely busy for knockout sports with many teams competing. I have been so impressed with the number of students trying out for our school teams to compete in the Macarthur zone competitions. We have had some great results with some teams progressing through to the next stage.

Open Girl’s Netball

On Wednesday 20th of May, our Open Girls Netball Team played in the Macarthur Zone Netball Knockout Carnival at Narellan Sports Hub.

The team started the day with a tough game against Elderslie going down 21 -10. They followed this up with a good win against Picton 13 – 9. Their 3rd game was against Mount Annan & unfortunately the girls lost 18-12. This meant that a count back was needed between Picton, Mount Annan & TRED. Elderslie and Picton progressed to the semi-finals.

Congratulations to Captain, Synceer M who was voted Most Valuable Player for the day & a big thank you to Maali T for doing an awesome job umpiring.

The girls represented Thomas Reddall High School with pride & were extremely competitive, yet friendly with all three schools. They showed excellent sportsmanship, even in the face of defeat.

Opens Boys’ and Girls Football

On Friday 22nd May, two senior teams made up of 33 students across years 7-12 representing Thomas Reddall, competed at the Macarthur Zone Football Competition held at Doohan Reserve. While neither team progressed to the final, both displayed resilience and determination throughout the day. Their positive attitude, strong teamwork, and willingness to support one another served as a great reminder that success is not measured solely by wins and losses, but by the skills, friendships, and experiences gained through participation. Well done to all involved! Thank you to Miss Newton for all your hard work leading up to the competition and to Mrs Bray for filling in for Mr Heylin on the day.

Opens Mixed Tennis

On 16 June, nine students represented the school at the SSW CVD Floris Conway and Stan Jones Tennis Competition. With both a boys' team and a girls' team competing, students had the opportunity to challenge themselves against strong opposition in both doubles and singles matches.

Although we narrowly missed out on progressing to the finals, our teams achieved several victories throughout the day and demonstrated great determination and resilience. Most importantly, all students represented our school with pride, displaying excellent sportsmanship and embodying the TRED values both on and off the court.

Overall, it was an enjoyable and rewarding day of tennis, with all students making the most of the experience and proudly representing our school community.

Thank you, Mr Heylin, for taking the team and congratulations to all on the results achieved.

Opens Boys’ & Girls’ Touch Football

Interest in touch football is increasing every year and that was evident with the number of students who trialled for both teams. We have more students who have an understanding and skill in the different codes of football. Touch football is one of the most competitive sports within the Macarthur zone and we continue to push ourselves in performing and achieving positive results in the competition. Although, the girls were unsuccessful in winning a game in their pool, the girls demonstrated the TRED core values in each game.

The boys team however, demonstrated a high level of skill and ability and were undefeated in their pool and made it to the playoffs which was a very close and intense game. The score was tied at the end of the game, so it meant that the boys needed to play “Drop off” to help decide an overall winner.

Unfortunately, when it got to sudden death and two players per team on the field, Picton had scored against us and that was the end of the game. Despite this loss in the final, they progressed to the SSW CVD which is an amazing accomplishment for the boys and our school. Thank you to Mr Lugg (boys coach) and Mrs Adamson (girls coach) for taking the teams again this year.

Opens Boys’ & Girls’ Volleyball

What a jam-packed day this was again this year! It is a very competitive competition held within our zone and the level of skill is continually increasing each year with more schools introducing a team. A special thank you to Mrs Latu and Mrs Jones for taking the teams so Mrs Adamson could run the day with the help of Elijah and Zorym. Throughout the day, the boy’s team had played 5 games and finals, and the girls played 4 games and finals.

The boys’ team was undefeated all day, which was an indication of their hard work and team work they put into each of the games. Both TRED teams were in the finals, and the girls had to face off against Oran Park High School for yet another year and unfortunately lost in the finals. They will be come back even stronger next year to hopefully take out the win against Oran Park. The boy’s faced off against Elizabeth Macarthur for the first time in a finals match and were very strong in winning two straight sets and coming away as the undefeated Macarthur zone champions for another year in a row.

The boys then represented TRED and the Macarthur zone at the SSW Championships the following week. The level of competition this year was of a high standard which resulted in highly competitive games that were hard and required strong teamwork and communication to push us through. This year we had finished 5th this which is a great result out of the 11 teams. We are so proud of the achievements and results the boys had attained this year. Thank you again to Mrs Latu who accompanied the boys on the day as Mrs Adamson was running the boys competition this year.

Wanderers Schools Cup

For the second year in a row, four TRHS teams across Stages 4 and 5 represented the school at the 2026 Wanderers Schools Cup Secondary competition on Wednesday 3rd June at the newly opened, state-of-the-art Wanderers 5s facility. Students enjoyed a fantastic day of football, taking on schools from across Western Sydney in four matches throughout the day. Although no TRHS teams progressed to the Schools Cup Final, there were plenty of highlights to celebrate. A special congratulations goes to our girls’ teams, with the senior girls winning three out of four matches and the junior girls winning two out of four.

Our boys’ teams deserve equal recognition, with the junior boys pulling off a standout win on the day. All four teams represented TRHS with pride and spirit throughout a memorable day of five-a-side football.

Run Club

This year our school was selected to be apart of the Run Beyond Project. The Run Beyond project is a charity which uses running as a medium to help students facing adversity; through the project they learn goal setting, commitment, resilience and feel a sense of belonging. As a result from this, we have started a run club that is open to all students who wish to participate.

The aim and purpose of the Run Beyond Project:

Empowering young people to succeed beyond the finish line

Students commit to giving up their own time to complete our program, which is done before or after school. They work towards the completion of a Goal Race of between 10km and a half-marathon in length. But the skills Run Beyond develops are skills that can be applied beyond the finish line, to enable students to succeed with confidence and dedication in any field which inspires them!

Goal setting, commitment, resilience

Our program, which involves a theoretical component as well as training for the Goal Race, teaches participants how to set goals; provides a framework for modelling commitment to these; and develops strategies to be resilient when obstacles to the attainment of these goals arise.

Beyond running. Beyond the finish line

Running is a fantastic endeavour in and of itself, but we are in no way a running club. Running is the tool that we use to develop these crucial skills within students in need.

Our program places a strong emphasis on the broader application of these skills and encourages students to consider how they can apply them to all aspects of their lives, now and in the future.

Community

While running is in many ways an individual sport, Run Beyond participants do more than just pursue individual goals. We provide them with a gateway into the running community, and an appreciation for the concept of community in all aspects of their lives. We develop skills that allow them to become active members of the communities to which they belong.

We have 8 students currently in our program that meet every Monday afterschool to participate in some running training, goal setting, connection and wellbeing activities. The end goal for this program is our students alongside Miss Newton and Mrs Adamson is the completion of the 3 Bridges 10km race in September.

To be able to cater for more students, the run club is open to any student who wishes to be apart of the running family here at TRHS. If you would like to join, please see Miss Newton or Mrs Adamson for a note.
