Year -1/2 Unit

We hope everyone is trying to stay safe and healthy as we have had a lot of students (and teachers) away due to illness. We hope everyone is recovering and feeling better!

Inquiry

Over the last two weeks, the students have been learning about Australian Dinosaurs and where their bones have been found. They are VERY excited for the trip to the museum next week where they will see bones in person. Thanks so much to the parents who offered to supervise for the day!

They have also been learning about the features (body parts) dinosaurs have, that set them apart from other animals/things.

Literacy

Over the last two weeks, the students have been practicing synthesizing, which involves thinking about their prior knowledge on topics and gaining new information.

They have also been practising making connections between the texts and their own lives. This could be with the topic, the story or the characters. The students have enjoyed sharing their experiences and how they relate to texts.

For writing, they have been busy planning their explanation texts using a template to help them with the structure. This will continue for the next 2 weeks.

Maths

Year 1/2 students have finished up their unit on fractions and have begun looking at time. They have been looking at time concepts such as morning, midday, evening etc. They have been looking at features of an analogue clock and created their own. Next, we will be looking at telling the time to the hour, half hour, quarter to and quarter past.

Please make sure your child is still bringing in their Reader Diary and Magic Word book every Friday for the classroom teacher.

Thanks so much for all of your support!
