Mindfulness Centre Newsletter

Term 4 is always a busy and eventful term, full of excitement, change, celebrations, expectations, and the unexpected. Some students navigate through all that Term 4 has to offer with ease, whilst others can find it overwhelming and emotional.
It is a significant term for our Year 6 students as they prepare for their transition to Year 7. At times, Year 6 students may have very high and unrealistic expectations about what their final term of Primary School should involve, which can lead to feeling disappointment, nervousness or uncertainty. Additionally, friendships may experience some bumps as students work out how to navigate the thought of moving to different schools and forming new social connections. As a parent you can help your child by talking openly about feelings and expectations, reminding children that it’s normal to feel nervous or to miss friends, encourage them to focus on what is happening now, remind them of their strengths and how they can use these to navigate these challenges and feelings.
The Australian social media ban for under 16’s will take effect from 10/12 this year. If you would like advice or support around this topic you can find some on eSafety Commissioner and the headspace National Youth Mental health Foundation
What’s New in the Mindfulness Centre this term
This term Year Levels will have rostered days to access the Mindfulness Centre. This has come about as the room is often so busy that those students who are seeking a quiet space to regulate have difficulty doing so. Every day there will be games, Lego, drawings etc set up outside for all year levels to access. There will be some exceptions made to the scheduled days for those students who regularly access the Mindfulness for regulation or who may be having a day where they really need a quiet space.
What’s happening to the Junior School’s buddy bench?
Our beloved Junior School buddy bench was in need of some TLC but after close inspection we have decided to replace it with a new one. The new bench seat is cut and in the painting phase. We are hoping to get back in to the yard very soon so keep an eye out for it!
