Hello from 2/3 B
Respect, Responsibility and Kindness
Over the past few weeks, our students have been diving into the magical world of fairytales and their funny, creative cousins — fractured fairytales! They’ve compared the similarities and differences between the stories and discovered the important messages hidden within each tale. The highlight of the unit was when students had the chance to create their very own fractured fairytale filled with twists, turns, and lots of imagination. What amazing storytellers they are!
In weeks 1 to 3, students have been exploring fractions! They discovered that fractions represent equal parts of a whole and explored this concept in fun, hands-on ways — including folding paper to make equal pieces. They were also able to link linking their learning to real life by cutting “pizzas” into equal slices and using chocolate bars as examples too! Students also learned about equivalent fractions and enjoyed finding different ways to show that two fractions can be the same. It’s been a deliciously mathematical journey of discovery and problem-solving!
This week, our curious learners began their new unit on mass and capacity! They’ve been busy comparing the weight of different objects using balance scales — discovering what’s heavy, what’s light, and everything in between! Students have also learnt that grams and kilograms are the formal units we use to measure mass. This hands-on unit is packed with real-world connections, supporting students to explore mass and capacity in fun and practical ways.
