Our 2026 Boarding House Captains were in full swing this week. They were fortunate to be involved in a Boarder’s Leadership Conference hosted by the Australian Boarding Schools Association, and Burn Bright. With over 300 boarding leaders and prefects, Pepper and Finn generated, shared, and gained insight into activities and organisational strategies to put into action next year. We have been witnessing a confident start in their display of leadership during evening meals in the refectory. I have particularly been impressed by their high standards and inclusivity when leading prayer before dinner service, and the coordination of tricky trivia Tuesday. I look forward to their first House meeting this week and the energy and enthusiasm to have all boarders of each respective house contribute to the positive culture of each.

At my age it is not often that I am surprised, but this week I was taken by the gratitude and respect shown by the Year 12 boarders. Andrea and Olive had organised an ad hoc 'Let's have a coffee together at 7:15am’.
Unbeknown to me, ‘visitors’ arrived at our house with breakfast in tow. Hosting our Year 12 boarders for breakfast and freshly brewed coffee and tea was a perfect start to a day. I am truly going to miss our Year 12’s as will all staff. I consider the year level as such fine young men and women. They are humble and know how to have a laugh, they’re respectful, compassionate, and kind. Traits that are so important today. Our parents are and should be so proud of each of their sons or daughters. I thank our Year 12’s for their kindness and look forward to celebrating their time as boarders’ at college this week at the Boarders Dinner.

With great respect, our Year 7-11 boarders and staff lined the Myrniong Drive this week as our Year 12’s made one of their last walks to school together. In a long-held tradition, the boarders’ guard of honour celebrates a walk down the majestic driveway, unique to Myrniong. For some students this is very special as they have spent time as a junior student and some even earlier. This had brought back fond memories of where they have come from and how much they have grown. It is such as an emotional time for our Year 12’s and they are truly enjoying the moment of celebration together.
