2026 Planning
2026 Planning
While our current focus is very much on ensuring Term 4 is a success in every sense of the word, we would ask that parents who intend moving their child from Sacred Heart Kew for next year to please notify the school via admin@shkew.catholic.edu.au. Thanks to those families who have already communicated these intentions. Thank you for providing us with the most up to date information regarding your child(ren’s) enrolment status at Sacred Heart Kew next year.
As such, we have planned for next year based on known enrolment numbers, formulating class and year level structures as per below. Over the next few weeks we will continue to plan and allocate funds towards our school programs for 2026.
2026 Class Structure
In 2026, the following Class structure will be in place:
2 x Prep
2 x Year One
1 x Year Two
2 x Year Three
2 x Year Four
1 x Senior (Year 5 & 6)
2026 Class Placement
In the coming weeks, staff will begin to consider and discuss student class placements for 2026. This task is quite extensive and a variety of factors are taken into account during this process. At Sacred Heart Kew, classroom teachers are ‘best placed’ when deciding the future learning environments for your child.
Later on this term, students will select a list of children whom they would like to be in a class with next year. Students will be placed with one of these children as a classmate for 2026.
At Sacred Heart Kew our year levels often work collaboratively throughout the school week and all students are provided opportunities to work with their year level peers, as well as their usual classmates. It is also important to note that many friendships are fostered out in the playground and not necessarily within the classroom setting.
When completing this important activity, our staff really are the experts in placing students, having the ‘big picture’, considering all elements, when determining class groups each year. A reminder to parents of 'twins' that due to various circumstances, we can not always guarantee to keep your children together or separate them, from year to year.
Educational Concerns to be placed in writing and forwarded to Principal
If you do have a genuine ‘educational concern’ for your child, this needs to be placed in writing/email and forwarded to the Principal. If this is the case, please complete this by Friday 7 November.
PLEASE NOTE - As a school, we do not act on parent requests for specific teachers.
Please note that any correspondence with classroom teachers will not be considered, all requests do need to be made in writing and sent to the Principal by the above date.
Sport News

Year 3/4 Cricket Day
Today our Year 3 and 4 students competed in cricket matches against other local schools at Elgar Park. Our Year 5 students also attended to umpire and score the matches. Well done to all students.
Swimming Program at MLC
Aquatic Education is an integral part of the Physical Education program that we value at Sacred Heart Kew. It is so important that we maintain the skill throughout the year when possible. Your child will be participating in a 5 day swimming program with qualified swim instructors at Methodist Ladies College (MLC) Swimming Centre.
This year this will take place from Monday, December 8th to Friday, December 12th. If your child will be absent during the time, please email admin@shkew.catholic.edu.au
to let us know. This helps with planning and logistics for our MLC Aquatics organisers and swim teachers.
MLC Aquatics have asked if parents could fill out an online form to let them know your child’s swimming capabilities as of November 2025.
Link to online form is below, it should take only 1-2 minutes.
https://forms.office.com/r/wpc3JpXgbe
Please complete as soon as possible and submit no later than Week 5, Term 4 (3rd November)
Please note: It's a massive undertaking in placing students in groups, that the swim teachers will constantly alter based on student performance and participation in the program seen throughout the week.
Each day, all children will walk to and from the venue with their classroom teacher. Children are to wear their sports uniform each day to school (and can wear their bathers underneath). Children will need to bring a separate bag to school with them each day with the items listed below.
Items Required
Towel
Goggles
Bathers (or change of underwear if wearing bathers to school under their uniform)
Swimcap (Optional)
Please ensure all items are clearly labelled along with their sports uniform worn on the day.
As there are other school events on during this busy period, your child’s swimming class day and time will be commmunicated to families in due course. These may vary from day to day this year, for various reasons, some reasons are out of our control.
** Note ** Classes depart school and walk to MLC prior to start of lesson and have changing time available. Students will be in the water for 45 minutes and change after.
We will require some parent helpers for the younger children to help get changed. Classroom teachers will arrange this with you directly. If you are free on any of the days during the week, you will need to have a current (WWWC) Working with Children Check.
Seniors Little Assets ELC Visit
This year we continue our partnership with Little Assets Childcare Centre. On Tuesday our Senior students visited their 4 year old buddies and participated in a range of activities such as story-book reading and getting to know you games. Next Tuesday the children will visit their big buddies at Sacred Heart. The Seniors will take them on a tour of school to show them what school life is like and what to expect.

2025 School Closure Days
As was communicated to families last year...
* Time in Lieu (TIL)
The new Catholic Education Multi-Enterprise Agreement 2022 (the Agreement) introduces a formal time in lieu (TIL) process for teachers. The Agreement provides that a principal may require a teacher to undertake work and attend a school activity outside the normal hours of attendance (i.e., in excess of the 38 hours or normal hours for a part-time teacher) and when this occurs, it will attract TIL.
Principals should prepare for the accrual and acquittal of TIL through their annual planning process. The timing of the acquittal of TIL is at the discretion of the principal, having regard to the operational needs of the school and causing the least disruption to the educational program of the school.
Principals may elect to acquit TIL through designating days during the year on which all staff and students are not required to attend school.
