Welcome to Term 4

Welcome back to the final term for 2025! It’s been a wonderful year so far, and we are looking forward to an exciting Term 4!

It is going to be a busy one as we prepare the students for Grade 3.

Parent Helpers

When helping with the children at CEPS, it is required that you wear a Working With Children’s Check (WWCC) displayed on a lanyard at all times.

If you have not got a WWCC and wish to volunteer, application forms can be found online at: www.workingwithchildren.vic.gov.au

Remember to sign in each day you volunteer at CEPS via the computer at the office. This is a mandatory requirement. You will also be required to sign out.

Teaching and Learning

English

Phonics & Reading:In our daily phonics sessions, we continue to explore the different ways letter(s) represent sounds to help students read and spell more complex words. Once we have investigated all sounds, we will revise them until students’ recall is automatic. In addition, students will be supported in becoming fluent readers by using phrasing and adding expression by altering the emphasis, tone and volume of their voices. To improve their understanding of the text, students will be scaffolded in applying a range of comprehension strategies with a focus on understanding the author’s purpose, identifying text features and cause and effect. During reading sessions, students will practise the above skills as well as tuning into and inferring the meaning of new vocabulary. They will be prompted to stop and think about what they are reading and re-read for accuracy and meaning, until this skill is internalised.

Writing:Students start Term 4 using their senses to describe one moment of their holidays, i.e. what did they see, hear, touch, taste and smell. The aim is to expand their vocabulary and create noun groups, e.g. the rowdy rock music, to engage the reader in their writing. For the rest of the term, students will be scaffolded in writing texts that inform and entertain. They will consider the purpose and audience for both text types and continue to develop skills to use the text structure and language features correctly. During these units, students will be supported in structuring simple and compound sentences correctly, using appropriate conjunctions and punctuation. They will understand how to add suffixes to base words, e.g. play, to change the tense of verbs, e.g. played. Students will be expected to revise and edit their own work and apply their knowledge of phonics and morphology to spelling.

Speaking and Listening: Students will be given plenty of opportunities to engage in discussions with their peers through whole-class, small groups and paired situations. Students will also take part in short plays that they will present to the class.

Maths

This term, students will revise and build on their knowledge of fractions, data, location, and patterns. They will explore fractions through hands-on activities, collect and represent data in different ways, describe and follow routes using directional language, and identify and continue a variety of number and shape patterns.

Students will have the opportunity to problem solve and will continue to strengthen their ability to apply these concepts to real-life situations. They will be encouraged to choose appropriate strategies, explain their thinking and share their understanding with others.

Wellbeing

CEPS VALUES

COURTESY    RESPECT    CO-OPERATION    RESPONSIBILITY

Our School Values are CourtesyRespectCooperation and Responsibility. Each week, all classes will engage in a Respectful Relationships session as well as discuss our CEPS Skill of the Week. These lessons will encourage the development of skills that promote our school values and the positive and personal growth of all students.

Your child may receive a CEPS raffle ticket for displaying the expected positive behaviours! Award winners will be drawn and announced during assembly on Friday afternoons.

Humanities

Students will begin exploring the concept of environment and how it impacts living things. They will identify the features of places they live and visit, and how they have changed overtime. They will plant a sunflower seed and watch it grow over the term. We will also look at what living things need for survival.  For our final STEAM project students will be creating a diorama based around their chosen animal.

Digital Technology

During our Digital Technology sessions this term students will learn how to create a Google Slide Show. They will  investigate the various features that can be added to a slide show in order to make it  more appealing to the viewer. Digital technologies will also continue to be integrated across all learning areas.

Supporting learning from home

Please ensure that you are continuing to read with your child every night for at least 20mins. Reading regularly will further develop their reading and writing skills and taking time to discuss the text in depth with your child assists with their comprehension.

Children will be encouraged to borrow chapter books from the Library to read during quiet reading time at school or at home. These books can be read instead of take home books if your child wishes. Mathletics tasks are also set regularly and are related to the topics we are learning in class.

Communication

If you have any queries along the way, please feel free to contact us using our emails listed below, or you can send a Class Dojo. If any more urgent concerns arise, please organise a time to meet with your child’s teacher.
