The Energy Breakthrough Challenge is fast approaching, with the event set to take place from 20-23 November. This exciting competition brings together schools from across Victoria to design, build, and race human-powered vehicles in a 24-hour endurance challenge. It’s a wonderful opportunity for our students to apply their engineering skills, teamwork, and perseverance in a real-world setting.
To ensure the success of this event, we rely heavily on the generous support of parent volunteers. Volunteers assist with a variety of tasks, including:
Supervising students during the event
Supporting pit crew operations & bicycle mechanics
Assisting with food preparation and meal distribution
Marshalling and logistical help
Offering general encouragement and support to students throughout the challenge
Please contact Jesse Gatt for further information
A huge thank-you to our sponsors, whose generosity makes our participation possible and helps provide the resources and equipment our teams need to compete. Our sponsors include:
SureCare
Make the Connection Speech Pathology & Occupational Therapy
Essendon Keilor Gymnastics Academy
Derrimut Smash Repairs
Hawk Appliances
The photos featured were taken during our practice day at Calder Park Raceway, where students had the opportunity to trial their bikes and experience the thrill of racing on a professional track. The bikes will also go through a design and completion phase in preparation for the Energy Breakthrough Event.

Congratulations to Year 9 student Orlando Z on being crowned the u17 National Boys 50kg Champion at the recent Australian Schools Championships held in Darwin. This is the 3rd time Orlando has been a National Champion, previously winning the u15s title in 2022 and the u17s in 2023.
Orlando first stepped into the boxing gym in 2022, initially training for fitness before progressing quickly into his first official bout later that year. In his debut season, Orlando fought three times to qualify for Nationals, before going on to claim the U15 National Championship title, an extraordinary achievement in his very first year of competition.
In the lead-up to major competitions, Orlando commits to an intense training schedule, which includes sessions twice a day incorporating sparring, fitness sessions, running, and recovery work. During regular training periods, he maintains his skills with 6 sessions per week.
Orlando’s talent has already taken him onto the international stage. He recently competed at the AIS against an international opponent and will represent Australia in the World U17 Championships in Japan, competing in the 50kg weight class.
Orlando’s dream is to one day compete at the Olympic Games and he has already been recognised as part of the Victorian Pathway Program, which supports athletes with the potential to reach Olympic level.
We are incredibly proud of Orlando’s accomplishments and look forward to following his continued success in the ring.
