The Festival of Music – An Example of Excellence!

The Festival of Music wrapped up in the final week of term with 2 outstanding events.

Shining in Song

The College choirs presented an entertaining night of song at the Clocktower Centre in Moonee Ponds on Tuesday 16th September. Featuring over 200 students from Years 1 to 12, the evening offered the opportunity to see the vocal development of the students.

The youngest students who made up the Year 1 Choir charmed the audience with their enthusiasm as they sang Wombat on a Surfboard and Candle on the WaterThe Senior School Choir performances of Light and Rise Up were poignant and uplifting. The Year 2, 3/4, 5/6 and 7/8 Choirs similarly delighted the audience with the range and skill of their performances.

Definite highlights were the combined choir performances. Let’s Sing Together appropriately commenced the evening, while Blessing Song concluded the concert in a manner that has become a tradition.

Out of the Blue

The Festival concluded with the Rock Band performance, Out of the Blue at the Bowery Theatre in St Albans on Wednesday 17th September. Fifteen bands took to the stage. Again, the skill development was evident in the students who ranged from Years 5 to 12.

There were well-known “bangers” as well as an original song or two. Notable was the Jazz band’s Meridian by Year 10 studentsJaime and Ethan. Current students were supported by several old collegians. There were heartfelt moments as the audience saw long-time bands composed of Year 12 students perform at their last Out of the Blue

A huge vote of thanks to our festival student performers and to their families for supporting the 12 performance events that made up the Festival. Thank you too to the staff music directors, accompanists and supporters under the leadership of Mrs Prue Jury, the College Ensemble Leader.
