Year 11 Report

The Senior School classrooms have been humming with concentration over the first five weeks of this term as our Year 11 VCE and VCE VM students have been finishing off their Unit 2 studies, SACs, and ALATs. We are so proud of how well our students have conducted themselves during this busy and stressful time.

In addition to all of this, our Year 11 students have had the exciting opportunity to put themselves forward for leadership roles for 2026. The selection panel was spoiled for choice when it came to selecting our College Captains for 2026, as candidates undertook the rigorous selection process that involved written applications, speeches to both Year 11s and staff, followed by an interview. Congratulations to Tom Francis and Brady Symons, 2026 College Captains, and Amber Gibb and Mylee Turner, 2026 College Vice Captains. These students will make a fantastic team in representing their peers and the College in 2026. Over the next week, other leadership positions will be filled, including House Captains, Performing Arts Captains, and Sustainability Captains. Again, there has been a very impressive field of applicants for these roles, and it has been fantastic to see so many of our Year 11 students demonstrating our school value of connection by putting themselves forward for these roles.

In the first week of Term 4, our VCE cohort travelled to Hawthorn to spend a day at the Swinburne University of Technology. Students had the opportunity to explore the campus, learn about the amazing courses offered, and experience them firsthand in workshops. It was impressive to see our students engaging and asking questions, as they are clearly becoming more aware of options for themselves beyond Year 12. Our careers team is always available to support students and their families with any questions they may have about life after KWRSC.

This week, our VCE students have gone into full revision mode across all their classes as they prepare for their upcoming Unit 1 and 2 exams. These run from November 13th to 19th. Exam information and a timetable were distributed to students and emailed to parents last week. The purpose of Year 11 exams is to support students in developing skills in exam revision and technique, as assessment through exams is such a pivotal part of their Year 12 studies next year. The Year 11 team and Year 11 teachers have been working closely with students to develop practical study skills. Please do reach out if you would like any suggestions of how you can support your child through what we do recognise can be a stressful time for some.

Our VCE VM students have finished their formal classes for Year 11, and I would like to congratulate them on their hard work this year. For the next two weeks, they will engage in a program of incursions and excursions that include community service, gaining their first aid certification, and visiting the Salvation Army headquarters in the city. These experiences will be vital in building their skills towards a successful Year 12, and information was communicated to families via email two weeks ago about these events. This can also be seen on Compass.

It has been an absolute pleasure to work with so many amazing young people this year and watch them embrace the opportunities that the VCE and VCE VM programs have offered. As I always say, we want to support our Year 11s to be their best selves, and communication with families and carers is pivotal to this. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us at school if you have any questions or concerns about the upcoming weeks and your child’s transition into Year 12.
