Year 10 OES Camp

Last week, the Year 10 Outdoor Education class took off on a two-day hike to and from Mt Saint Gwinear.
Having spent two weeks preparing for the trip, it appeared that the group was ready to put their knowledge and skills into practice in the outdoors.
The group set off from the college at 9am, enjoying the comfortable bus ride to the Mt Saint Gwinear carpark. Upon arriving at the car park, we were lucky enough to witness one of the beauties of the Victorian alpine region - an October snowfall. With clear weather predicted in the next few hours, the students and teachers set off on the 8km journey to Mt Saint Gwinear and beyond. Snow, rain, and very cold temperatures could not deter the group from having a great time.
Once we reached our campsite, tents were set up, and Trangia dinners were cooked. Once their bellies were full, the group members agreed that they should all retreat to their tents to keep warm. The night came and went in temperatures below 0 degrees. Brrrrrrrr!
By morning, puddles had frozen over, but the skies had parted - it was a bluebird day! In record time, tents were packed, and we were on the trail. Spirits were high as the river crossing we'd endured on the previous day, was dry. What a relief! Dry socks for the rest of the walk! Onwards and upwards to continue the journey back to the summit and back down to the car park! What an achievement. Great job, Year 10 OES students! We hope this experience sets you up for more outdoor adventures in the future.
Thank you to Mr Vitale and Mr Hamilton for attending.
