Leadership

“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, and do more to become more, you are a leader." - John Quincy Adams.

This week, all Year 11 students have been encouraged to apply for a School Prefect, Boarding and Co-Curricular Captaincy. Students are required to submit a letter of application and a resume.

The entire process for selecting each of our school leaders (prefects) is, in my opinion, exhaustive and transparent, and one which is confined to schools of our relatively small size. We conduct a six-stage operation as follows:

  • Students from Years 7 to 12 are invited to vote for House and School Captains.
  • Staff are invited to cast votes for School Captains.
  • Every Year 11 student is encouraged to submit a formal application and Resume to their Head of House.
  • Every Year 11 student is formally interviewed by the Head of House.
  • The Principal and Deputy Principal formally interview students shortlisted by the Head of House to be School Captains or SRC Presidents.
  • The Pastoral Care Committee, consisting of the Principal, Deputy Principal Wellbeing, Head of Middle Years, Head of Senior Years, and Director of Boarding, together with the Heads of House, meets to make recommendations for successful candidates.
  • The Principal appoints successful candidates based on the recommendation of the committee.
  • Unsuccessful candidates are invited to speak to the Head of House to discuss their application and to offer guidance.

Where possible, we endeavour to share leadership roles and responsibilities amongst the entire Year 11 group. Captaincies of sport, music, and drama, to name a few, provide other leadership opportunities for students who may not have been successful in selecting Prefect positions.

Wellness Week

Monday 26 August- Friday 30 August

Wellness Week is always one of my favourite weeks of the school year. Beginning Monday, August 26, the SRC has organised several fun activities. Each lunchtime this week, activities will run to encourage students to think about their mental health and encourage positive engagement between students of all year levels.

Senior Students can look forward to House Art, Staff vs Student Netball, Discos, Live Music, Fairy Bread, Just Dance and a whole school BBQ with the Junior Campus.

The week will conclude with College Has Got Talent on Friday, 30 August, at 7:00 pm - a fun night of entertainment with all funds supporting a charity of the winner’s choice. Tickets are now on sale and will be available at the door at night.
