Hop in and help build the RPS Frog Bog!
In 2023 our Garden Crew successfully applied for a Banyule Council Environment Grant to build a frog bog at RPS.
Banyule is home to a variety of frog species, and just a "hop" over the road in Rosanna Parklands there are established populations of Common Froglets and Eastern Banjo Frogs. Our goal is to create an extension of their habitat into the school grounds and take a small step in "rewilding" our local area.
After some fabulous work by our sustainability agents and year 3/4 students designing and learning about local frogs and their habitats it is now time to break soil on the RPS Frog Bog!
Please join us at the Working Bee this Saturday August 10 from 9am. There will plenty of digging, rock moving and a sausage sizzle at the end to thank everyone for their hard work.
Uniform Swap Information & Request For A Successor....
Hi everyone
Two or three times a year RPS parent community runs a uniform swap. Generally they are held towards the of term 1, and towards the end of term 3. And if enough interest, at the end of term 4.
Parents and carers bring along uniform items that are in good condition and swap them for other items they may need. This all happens on the day of the swap.
Outside of these swap times, uniforms can be donated to the school for the second hand uniform store. And of course, second hand uniform items can be purchased for $5 an item (polar fleece jackets are $20) at any time during the year.
More details about the next uniform swap will be forthcoming but save the date: Friday 6th September after school.
My second point is that I need a successor to shadow me in the next 12 months. I (Jackie) have been leading this initiative out for the past 18 months. However next year is my last year at RPS and I need 1-2 parents to take over for me.
The ideal candidate will have a child currently in grade prep, 1, or 2 and be passionate about saving clothes from landfill. The actual swap organising is pretty easy (& full training will be provided). But the environmental passion must be there.
If you think you would like to take on this important task at RPS, please get in touch with Jackie at Jackie.arbuckle@yahoo.com.au or text 0413218761.
Thanks so much.
The Smile Squad free school dental program is coming to our school
Dear Rosanna Primary families,
The Smile Squad team from Banyule Community Health are coming to our school soon.
Smile Squad is the Victorian Government free school dental program.
This means ALL students can get a free dental check-up, preventive services, and treatment at school.
How to access free dental care
We need your consent before we can provide services. Consent is usually provided by a parent or guardian.
Sign up to Smile Squad at: https://bit.ly/smilesquadvic
OR use the below QR code:
Please complete and submit the consent form by Friday the 16th of August.
The electronic consent form can be translated into more than 100 languages, and the paper form is currently available in 13 languages.
Smile Squad oral health packs
All children deserve a healthy smile, and the Smile Squad free school dental program is working hard to help make sure this happens.
Your child(ren) will soon receive a free oral health pack to bring home. The pack contains a toothbrush, full sized toothpaste, and an oral health brochure. Please take the time to read the brochure. It’s full of helpful hints and tips to help your whole family eat well, drink well and clean well – for life.
Standard strength toothpaste
Smile Squad provides standard strength fluoride toothpaste that is generally used by ages six and over, unless recommended by a dental or trained health professional.
If your child is under six, please talk to a dental or trained health professional to find out if your child might benefit from using this toothpaste. You can also choose to put the toothpaste away until they turn six or give it to someone else in your family to use.
Do I need to attend my child’s appointment?
No, you do not need to attend your child’s appointment. You can attend if you would like to, and you can take your child to the community dental clinic if you prefer.
The Banyule Community Health Smile Squad look forward to seeing you soon.
Parent Survey - School Saving Bonus
The School Saving Bonus will be available to parents and carers of every child enrolled in a Victorian government school in 2025. If you are a parent or carer of more than one child, your school will receive the $400 credit for each child under your family account.
The Department of Education is currently working on how the School Saving Bonus can be spent.
The department is seeking feedback from parents and carers through a short survey. Your feedback is important. More information about the School Saving Bonus is available on the Victorian Government website.
The department will provide more guidance about the Bonus in Term 3, 2024.
Big Group Hug Needs Kids Coats!
Big Group Hug has run out of coats for local kids in need. Until the end of term please leave at Reception any kids size 2 to kids size 16 coats. Any winter clothes will be gratefully accepted, but they desperately need coats.
Thank you!
