Student Leadership Assembly
9:00am Friday 9 August
Student leadership at Rosanna Primary plays a crucial role in the development of social and emotional skills, as it fosters a sense of responsibility, empathy, and collaboration among young learners. This Friday, we celebrate our student leadership. These leadership roles provide a space to learn to navigate interpersonal dynamics, communicate effectively, and resolve conflicts, which are essential skills for personal growth and future success. Additionally, peer leadership cultivates a supportive environment where students model positive behaviours and encourage one another, reinforcing a culture of respect and cooperation. This early experience in leading and working with others not only enhances their self-confidence but also prepares them for more complex social interactions and leadership challenges in later stages of their education and beyond.
All are welcome to stay on Friday morning to celebrate the achievement of student leaders over these initial six months of 2024 as well as the induction of our new leadership team for semester 2. Kate Thwaites will be present to share in this important moment. Parents and carers of our new leadership team are invited to stay for morning tea in Chandler hall.
Crossing Supervising Supporting Safety
We are fortunate to have two crossings staffed by crossing supervisors from Banyule Council on Grandview Grove and Davies Street. These supervisors provide a safe crossing for adults and children during the morning arrival time and the afternoon dismissal. I encourage all parents to listen carefully and respond appropriately to the supervisors’ directions as they cross the road. All pedestrians should wait at the curb until the supervisor reaches the middle of the road and ushers them across. We all want our children to be safe, taking our child to and from school is an important chance to model appropriate road safety behaviour.
Working Bee Building a Frog Bog
Saturday 10 August 9am to 12 noon
We are looking forward to the shaping and installation of a frog bog at the Working Bee this Saturday. The 234 Learning Area explored and developed a plan to increase the biodiversity on our site last term. We're thankful to Banyule Council for a grant to establish this unique space. I encourage anyone with a couple of hours to spare on Saturday morning to share their energy as we work at supporting students in this project. We will also be repainting some of our zigzag lines across the yard. Please make sure you sign in and attend an OHS briefing at 9:00am in the staff room. Bring along your sturdy shoes and gloves as well as a hat! A shovel and a wheelbarrow are always helpful. Stay until noon to score a sausage and a thank you.
Book Week - a Real Page Turner
Our whole community has had a wonderful celebration of literature over the last week.
Our Book Fair proved a wonderful opportunity for parents and students to place reading at the heart of conversations and discussions. The Annual Character Dress Up Day on Monday was another chance to delve deeply into stories and worlds of imagination. Thanks to all those parents who joined the audience during the character dress up parade on Monday afternoon. Then, throughout the week, students have laughed and discussed the various identities of masked readers, presented to them on video. The week certainly has proven that the richness of story is central to the human spirit. A special thanks to all involved in pulling the weight together. Our English curriculum team, classroom teachers and volunteer parents all collaborated to create a celebration of literacy.
