Wowee! What a busy few weeks it has been since our last edition of the St Pats Newsletter. The Beehive has been a buzz with lots of learning, 100 days of Foundation, Maths Olympics, Mini Olympics, Learning Conversations and so much more!!
Congratulations to our Foundation students for achieving their 100 Days of Foundation milestone. Their day was spent with a parade, 100 cake to share with the whole school, a class party, creating their own party shirts and using the bubbles and party poppers.
The Maths Olympiad has been in full swing this week and Miss Bennett has been so impressed with the amount of F/1 students who have been spending their recess and lunch breaks competing against other countries in maths.
The Mini Olympics was also a huge highlight over the past two weeks as the F/1 Busy bees gave every event a 'red hot go'. It was wonderful to see the interest and excitement for this day. We can't wait to do it again in another 4 years.
Madison and Tom, our Student Rep Leaders in the Beehive, met with their peer leaders and discussed the 'GaGa pit' rules to create a sign for the inside and outside of our new GaGa pit. They were great during the meeting and made sure that all of the members of the F/1 beehive knew the St Pat's Gaga pit rules.
In learning, we have been learning about 'Time Connectives' in writing and starting to write a diary entry. On Monday the F/1 students wrote a diary entry about their weekends.
A big THANK-YOU to all of the parents who have attended learning conversations in week 3, it was fantastic to catch up with you and celebrate your child's learning and discuss their learning goals for Term 3.
What fun we had at the St Pat’s Mini Olympics!! Miss Wooden did an absolutely amazing job at organising a fantastic day for the students and staff to enjoy. Farewell Scotty
We farewelled Scotty last week, we are sad to see our classmate leave. We wish Scotty all the best at his new school.
Maths
We have started on our new topic which is multiplication and division. We also have a huge focus on multiplication facts and improving our automatic recall.
St Pat’s and St Aug’s come together
We are very lucky to be part of a joint mentoring program with Year 9 students from St Aug’s in Kyabram. All students had a fantastic first session, through the nerves of meeting someone new, all students had a blast. We can’t wait for the next session where the Year 9’s will lead activities that they have created.
English:
We recently finished reading the classic book *The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe*. Our class loved the adventure and especially enjoyed the exciting ending! To celebrate, we watched the movie adaptation, *Narnia*, which allowed us to compare our interpretations of the story. Most of us agreed that the book was much better than the movie! We noticed that while the movie was shorter, the book took time to describe scenes, develop characters, and build suspense. The movie used actors, sound effects, and music to bring the story to life, but the book allowed our imaginations to fill in the details.
Now, we’ve started a new text-based unit with *Number the Stars*. We are learning about Annemarie, the main character, and her life in Copenhagen during the Nazi occupation. Our class is really enjoying this story, and we can’t wait to read more!
Maths:
In maths, we’re focusing on decimals and percentages. We are learning the importance of place value and how to align numbers correctly when adding or subtracting. We are also getting the hang of finding percentages by understanding 10% and using it to calculate other percentages.
History:
In history, we’ve been exploring the many reasons for colonisation around Australia. We’ve discovered that power, convicts, farming, and gold were the main reasons driving colonisation. Learning about these historical factors has been very interesting.
