Co-curricular - Junior Sport Stage 3
The Athletics season has kicked off for the Junior School with the squad competing at the South Harbor Carnival at Homebush. An early start for the boys in the field events, saw the boys from SPC being very competitive with a hand full of ribbons won. When we turned to the track, again the SPC athletes were competitive and gave all the other schools a run for their money. Again, the boys came away with a hand full of ribbons. Our strongest performance of the day came in the last event, the Senior Relay. The boys had never run together as a team prior to the carnival and due to a very short turnaround from Winter sport, had yet to train together for the event. Nevertheless, the boys put in a dazzling performance to finish third in the race.
With only three more carnivals ahead of the team, the signs are positive for a great season of Athletics. We wish all the boys well for the upcoming BPSSA Carnival and Newington Invitational Carnival at the end of this week.
In Rugby Union news, Jonah Ayoub and Joseph Youssef were selected in the NSW CIS Rugby Union team. The boys have travelled to Wagga Wagga this week for the NSW PSSA Championships. We wish them all the best for the tournament.
The boys in the Junior School always seem to be up to something. Either participating in sport, playing chess, performing in the choir or developing their skills outside the College. One such student is Nathaniel Khoury. Recently he competed in the State Taekwondo Tournament where he finished third overall for his division. This qualifies Nathaniel for the National Tournament later in November. Congratulations on an amazing effort Nathaniel and we wish you all the best for November.
Boys that have put their names down for the school knockout chess competition will receive the draw soon. The competition will be played at lunch time, with the winner having their name engraved on the shield. It is not too late for boys interested to see Mr Locke and place their names down for the competition.
Photos for the cultural co-curricular (non-sporting) activities will be taken on Tuesday 27 August. Boys involved are to where their full Winter uniform, minus the blue cap for the photos. All photos will be taken during Period 5. A timetable has been placed in all Junior School classrooms, so they should know what time their photo is scheduled to be taken. Boys should make sure that their blazer is clean, and shoes are polished in preparation for the photos. Jumpers are not to be worn under the blazer for the photos please.
I hope that everyone is enjoying having some Saturday mornings back and we look forward to the resumption of the Summer season in Term 4.
