Inside the Classroom

Early Primary

Class 5 have been practising further independence by opening their lunch boxes on their own, moving as a group throughout the school with less support from staff, and refining their fine motor skills. The students enjoyed a visit to the school book fair, where they created wish lists and explored different books. Following the book fair, they went on a trip to the farm, where they collected eggs and patted the chickens.

Class 10 have been exploring a variety of fine motor activities throughout their learning day. They have enjoyed developing life skills in the skills house, as well as engaging in various literacy and numeracy activities. The students also had a great time visiting the book fair and, after exploring the farm, collecting eggs and patting the chickens.

Class 11 has started cooking some very delicious food. They prepared two different dishes: jelly slice and pizza scrolls. They have been practising their measuring, pouring, mixing and crushing skills. Everyone enjoyed eating what they cooked. It will be interesting to see what they will cook next week.

In science, they have been exploring push and pull forces. Each week, they have been investigating how these forces can affect different objects. They have observed how these forces can make objects move or stop and how much force is needed to achieve this. They will be applying what they have learned by designing and constructing a bridge. It will be exciting to see what ideas they come up with!

Stage 4

Class 14 have been working on self-empowerment and recognising circumstances in life they can control and those they cannot control. This has helped them to make decisions about what they can control and to react to life events accordingly.

Class 15 have been participating in the Recipe of the Week. This includes lunches, desserts and snacks from week to week. The students enjoyed following a recipe to make Jelly Slice. They learnt to read instructions and measure ingredients accurately. After this they didn't want to stop there. As a bonus they went on to make Mini Pizzas as well.

Class 16 have been learning about different food types and the affects they have on our health. They have categorised foods into those that make us Glow, Go and Grow. This has helped them to be more responsible in food choices and has helped them understand why making healthy food choices is important for life.

Stage 5

Class 17 engaged in Book Week, it was a wonderful display of characters of some our students favourite story books. In class groups, students walk around the school oval several times, providing the entire school the opportunity to see the creative outfits.

There was an uproar of laughter, giggles, cheering and smiles on many of dials. Uncle Fester from The Adams Family secured the Class 17 prize, Brock was a very worthy winner, while special mention to Miss. Payton who embraced the Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland.

Class 18 focused themselves on Science, "working with microscopes". They eagerly took on the roles of budding scientists, looking at various samples of fibres, blood, animals and feathers. Ivy stated that human blood "...looks like pink circles..." while another student thought fish scales looked "gross". Furthermore, frogs blood was described as thicker than human blood.

Class 19 focused on the war on germs in Science and empowered everyone on how and why its important to wash your hands. Students conducted a dynamic bread experiment, trying to cultivate living germs.

Did you know that the human body contains more bacteria cells than human cells.

After 5-7 days, colonies of bacteria and mould should be visible on the bread, which was wiped on railings, shoes, soccer ball, traffic light button and a mobile phone.

Watch this space, for updates!

Stage 5 is so fortunate to have dedicated and talented SLSOs who support the active learning environments of our classrooms on a daily basis. We thank you for your energy, kindness and creativity in enriching and empowering our students and staff.

Stage 6

Stage 6 were very lucky to have Miss Dillon teaching for her intership in class 7 for the past 4 weeks. They have enjoyed cooking and learning new card games. It is amazing to see the students playing card games, taking turns, and celebrating each others wins!

Class 4 students visited the Wangarang Return and Earn facility last week. Students enjoyed watching the machinary and helping process the bottles and cans. A great activity estimating the value of their returns!

This year the book fair and parade was a huge success with all the students in stage 6 dressing up and participating in the parade.

The students have been building their teamwork, perseverance, and decision-making skills through multiple games of soccer during break times. Mr Wood is using his amazing coaching expertise to help the students learn these valuable skills. Mr Low has also joined in on the fun.

Students also enjoyed dressing up for Book Week. There was a heroes and villians theme  running through the costumes with a few cowboys making an appearance alongside Batman.

Both classes have been working hard on improving their literacy skills and this is evident in the quality of their work.

Break times have also been a great time to sit and have a yarn with your friends.

Orange Suspension Centre continues to support students during suspensions to keep up with their schoolwork.
