Eisteddfod - Choir

On Thursday our choir students performed in the Orange Eisteddfod singing 2 songs - Cover Me In Sunshine and We Are Australian. The students sang proudly and the adjudicator commented on their sparkle, bringing the sunshine inside to the Eisteddfod. The choir was joined on stage for the second song by our friends from the Orange Christian School. Together all students signed and sang bringing a tear to many faces.

We were awarded 2nd prize with a pennant and individual medal for each participant.

Thank you to Mrs Jen Cooke for conducting the choir and helping them to shine.

Eisteddfod - Percussion

Next Wednesday the percussion group will perform their bucket drumming routine to one of their favourite songs 'Shake It Off' by Taylor Swift. The team have been busy practising staying in time and adding tricky components to make their routine more complex.           Mr Tabbernor is quietly confident that the team will bring home the trophy!

All of our performing arts groups - junior dance, senior dance, choir and percussion (bucket drumming) will be on the stage again in the Public Schools Orange - Performing Arts Project on Monday 9 September at the Orange Civic Theatre. Tickets are sold out but there will be a live link sent to families on the night to watch the showcase from home if they missed out on securing tickets.

Check In Assessments

The Check-in assessment is an annual online assessment for students in Years 3 to 9 in NSW Public Schools. Students complete a reading test and a numeracy test. Year 6 students also complete a writing task. The Check-in assessment supports the identification of students’ performance in literacy and numeracy and informs next steps in teaching and learning.

Some of our students are currently completing the check-in assessments and this occurs during class time. The results will be used by teachers to focus teaching and learning on areas of need and to reinforce concepts requiring further teaching and revision.

Medical Students

We are very fortunate to host 3rd and 4th year medical students from The University of Sydney - School of Rural Health (Orange). These future doctors are completing placements with the aim of strengthening the rural and remote medical workforce.  One of the placement rotations is Child and Adolescent Health (CAH) and the medical students spend time visiting as many of our classrooms as they can to gain experience in communicating with, and understanding, children and youth with disabilities.

Groups of medical students visit us each term and their feedback is that these placements are extremely valuable to deepen their understanding of young people and their needs. Our next group of medical students will arrive in mid-October.
