Year Five
Dear Year Five families,
The students have thoroughly enjoyed the activities and events of book week, from the book parade to creation of our text innovations. As we draw nearer to the end of the term, we'd like to thank the students for their hard work and engagement throughout these meaningful activities. We encourage them to stay motivated and continue putting in their best efforts over the next few weeks.
Literacy
Our Students have been exploring a variety of Non-Fiction texts, from newspaper articles to opinion pieces and other forms of media. They've analysed text and language features found in these types of texts as they develop their understanding of the world around them.
We've found that they have learned a lot from unpacking real stories and will benefit from this exposure.
Numeracy
Our unit on fractions and decimals has come to a close. All students students should feel proud for developing their understanding of the complex concept of fractions and decimals. We encourage them all to maintain their understanding of these concepts at home using the My Numeracy feature on Essential Assessment as these activities are targeted to their learning needs.
Inquiry
Our Students have shown a lot of enthusiasm throughout this unit of inquiry. They've really grasped the central idea 'Migration may be a response to challenges and opportunities.' They're shown increasing awareness of push and pull factors and identifying the factors that led to their own migration to Australia, or understanding this for others. Many have expressed how shocked and impressed by the courage many families have shown in their journey of migration. We hope this unit has opened their minds and perspectives of the world around them.
