Prep

Dear Prep families,

We've had yet another busy fortnight, exploring, thinking, inquiring and being risk-takers. I hope you enjoy reading about our exciting learning and experiences.

INCURSION - UNIT OF INQUIRY

Wow! I think that speaks for itself! We were speechless with how informative, well organised and purposeful this incursion has been for our central idea 'Understanding the needs and wants of living things'. We are certain that you have heard many wonderful things from your children and hopefully some interesting facts about our native animals! We would like to thank the Wildlife Exposure organisation for an educational experience!

FATHER'S DAY

This week the preps have enjoyed visiting the Father's Day stall. The students were very excited to venture out to this part of the school! They were more excited and reflective when selecting appropriate gifts for their dads and special people. It was heartwarming watching and listening to our little people deep in thought as they declared that their dad loves coffee, so they will purchase a coffee mug!

READING

In Reading, we are discussing the purpose of punctuation in text. By understanding and correctly using punctuation, we break down sentences into clear, understandable parts to read smoothly and with expression. Examples of punctuation such as commas, exclamation marks, question marks and fullstops have a role to play when we read, making us take a break, pause, change our voice and intonation or to stop. We are also revising the different types of words that make up a sentence such as nouns, verbs and adjectives. Understanding these parts help us build sentences that are grammatically correct and interesting, effectively communicating our thoughts and ideas.

WRITING

This fortnight we have continued our work on writing information reports. We have had fun with these; writing facts and opinions about our dads and special people in our lives. We have been busy making and writing lovely cards and messages to our special dads and sharing lovely stories.

MATHS

Counting backwards and forwards from any starting number and doing this effortlessly helps to build a strong number sense and foundation for all mathematical concepts. Not only do we revise this daily, but we have also been revising the unit of location. Students have been engaged by using directional language with their partners and instructing them to place their teddies 'on top' of their noses, 'underneath' their legs and 'behind' their backs.

PREP WELLBEING

For the last two weeks in Wellbeing, students have had fun demonstrating different types of self-expression through social and relational activities that students can do at home and at school regardless of gender.

REMINDERS

  • If your child is absent, please ensure the reason is entered on XUNO; if you need support with this please reach out to the office staff or your classroom teacher.
  • Late arrivals (8:40 am onwards) require a late pass from the office.
  • Please remember that not only can you read our sight word key ring words but you can also learn to spell them!
  • Please ensure your child’s iPad is charged and brought to school every day.
  • Snack and lunch times are 20 minutes long. Please encourage your child to eat their snack/lunch within a 20-minute period, as this will help them to follow the school routine.
  • Please remember to pack a spare change of clothes for your child. Sometimes, little children can have toileting accidents and spills at school.

           Kind regards,

           The Prep Team.
