Timeless
It was a lot of fun reading the short listed book 'Timeless' for the students on our Book Week read a round on Monday! We had a great time (no pun intended!) sharing in the story of Emit, the main character (whose parents turned back time to name him) who was searching for more time and trying to work out where all the time goes!
The moral of the story 'Timeless' is that Emit, and ourselves, come to the understanding of the importance of being wise with the use of our time.
Time is elusive - it can slips away from us easily, leaving us wondering if we have used our time the way we should have. We also realise that time is short—and it’s a gift in short supply! Unlike money, which can be placed in a bank account for safekeeping and later used, our time is gone the minute we get it! A minute is gone in 60 seconds, and all we have remaining is the memory of how we spent it.
Of course, The Bible has a lot to say on the topic of time as well. In Job 7:7 it is written
“Remember…that my life is but a breath.”, whilst in James 4: 14 we read “How do you know what is going to happen tomorrow? For the length of your lives is as uncertain as the morning fog. Now you see it, soon it is gone.”
The great English preacher, Charles Spurgeon, said: "When as a child I laughed and wept, time crept. When as a youth I dreamed and talked, time walked. When I became a full-grown man, time ran. And later as I older grew, time flew. Soon I shall find while travelling on, time gone.”
Paul wrote to the Christians at Ephesus, saying that: “Therefore, be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, because the days are evil” in Ephesians 5:15-16. He encourages us to make the most of every moment, and every opportunity to live for God.
It is an encouragement to use our lives to serve God, as He has given us these as a gift to us. We are fortunate to be gifted the time we have by God, and ot consider how we might be able to use some of our moments in prayer, and reading the Bible, and growing in our faith. God gives us the gift of salvation - eternal life, and time that never runs out. As one of thel ines in the famous hymn, Amazing Grace, reminds us "We'll have no less days to sing God's praise than when we first begun".
Dear Lord, we thank you for the gift of time and the many ways you have blessed us to be able to spend it. We pray that you would help us to use our time wisely, and to remain focussed on you, and how we can best use our time to honour you. We thank you for the gift of your Son, Jesus, and the gift of eternal life through salvation. Amen
Blessings
