APS Stem Club
Last Thursday, two teams from the APS STEM Club raced their 3D printed cars at the Qualifying Round of the Quantum PrintACar Challenge.
Throughout this year, STEM Club members have worked in teams to design and 3D print a CO2-powered car, and create a portfolio which included a team profile, design process and physics, printing process, and reflections.
The ‘Speedy Boys’ - Ben, Jacob and Jordi from Year 5, and ‘First to the Finish Line’ - Evie M, Lina, Tallulah and Vaiva from Year 6, launched their cars 3 times down a 20 metre track, racing against a car from another school. Both cars had great success, recording impressive times and notching up some wins. The results will contribute to the overall marking of each team, along with their portfolio, car quality, and car marking self-evaluation.
Final results from the Qualifying Rounds will be released this week, so fingers crossed that both teams can move onto the finals!
Many thanks to the parents for driving the teams to and from the event, and for attending the racing!

Dominoes for Charity - Cereal Boxes for CareNet
Ned and Nic, two of our wonderful Year 4 students, have donated 66 boxes of cereal to charity this week on behalf of APS!
They had a fabulous idea last term (to do a domino track of cereal boxes to donate to charity), and it came to fruition last week. Ned and Nic did some research, made posters and promoted their cause at assembly. The amazing APS community donated 66 cereal boxes which the boys used to create a HUGE domino track at assembly.
The cereal boxes have been donated to Care Net, a charity that runs out of Gumnut Kinder on Monday mornings, which provides a mobile food pantry to families in need in the Alphington community.
Rose from Care Net came and collected the boxes on Monday and took them straight to the food pantry.
Well done Ned and Nic! You are both superstars 🙂
Reminder - Nude Food
Hello Alphington Primary School parents,
Our action team has decided that we have seen too many plastic wrappers in the bins and out in the yard. We decided to pick on a random grade and found a total of 170 pieces of plastic. That’s way too much.
Our action team has decided to make it stop. From now on we have a challenge for students to reduce the amount of rubbish in the bins.
Every Tuesday for the rest of Term 3 we will come around to classes, before recess, to check all the food that is nude food and whoever has the most nude food will get a certificate! We hope that you can support us with this by helping your child pack a nude food!
Thank You Bye!
