Lockdown Drill | Wednesday 14 August 2024 | Argyle Street Campus

In caring for our community, The Friends’ School places our community health, safety and wellbeing paramount.  As part of ensuring our health and safety procedures are tested, developed and effective, we are conducting a practice lockdown drill on the Argyle Street Campus on Wednesday 14 August at 2.15pm. A lockdown, as noted in the School’s Emergency procedures, is identified as a Code Black and is called by the Principal, Deputy Principal or Heads of School. A lockdown is a response to an active threat situation where staff, student or campus visitor safety is threatened.

Thank you for supporting the School during this practice drill.

More information has been sent to families this afternoon.

National Homelessness Week

It’s National Homelessness Week from Monday 5 to Sunday 11 August 2024. The theme for this week is ”Homelessness Act Now”. Homelessness affects people of all ages, and in all regions of lutruwita/Tasmania up to 10% of young people between the ages of 15-20 are or have experienced insecure housing at some point. You are not just considered homeless if you are sleeping rough. People staying temporarily with others (couch surfing), in precarious and substandard accommodations, emergency shelters or in overcrowded dwellings are also considered homeless. Anyone can become homeless due to negative life events, such as mental health issues, drug abuse or when feeling family violence. Please watch the following video about Lydia's story who is local to Hobart.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Wo0UnnWX8U

At the Middle Campus, we are going to be running several events this term to support organisations such as Hobart City Mission, who help people experiencing homelessness. Stay tuned for further details. We would love for you to get involved and be part of the solution.
