Library News
Book Week is here! After months of talking about it and planning for it, the most exciting and busy week in the Library calendar is here. With something on daily, this week is a great celebration of reading across our school, and we truly see that 'Reading is Magic'.
Dress Up Parade
Today is the much-anticipated Book Week Costume Parade, and the excitement has been building for weeks! Our students have been busy planning their costumes, and I can't wait to see all the fantastic book characters brought to life. The parade starts at 12:15 pm, and families are warmly invited to join us. We'll be awarding book prizes to the most creative costume from each year level. A heartfelt thank you to all the families who have supported their children in preparing for this special event. I understand the effort you put into this, and I truly appreciate your dedication. I look forward to sharing some event photos with you next week.
Classroom Book Art Display and Library Open Day
After the costume parade, families are invited to tour past the windows of the primary classrooms to admire the wonderful book-inspired art on display. From Australian classics like Click, Clack, Moo, and Possum Magic to creatively redesigned book covers and thoughtful reviews, our students have truly showcased their love for reading. We encourage you to come along and see how your child celebrates literature at HTS. The library will also be open for tours, offering a glimpse into where we hold our weekly lessons, the fantastic books our students enjoy, and the amazing space they can explore. We’d love to see you there!
K-10 Buddy Reading
One of our favourite traditions at Holy Trinity is bringing our younger and older students together to enjoy each other's company. Yesterday, we kicked off Book Week with a K-10 buddy reading session, where students paired up to share a story with one another. It's always a joy for teachers to witness these special moments, filled with both learning and laughter, as our students connect through the joy of reading.
Premier’s Reading Challenge - 3 Days to Go!
The final days of the PRC are upon us, and the Challenge must be completed by Friday, August 23rd. Once students have logged their books online, please send me their printed Reading Logs for validation.
Congratulations to this week’s super readers who have made our PRC Stars’ wall.
Book of the Year Winners
Last Friday, the Children’s Book Council of Australia announced the winners of the Books of the Year Awards. This term, our Primary and some Secondary students have been reading these nominated books across all categories. Our classes cast their votes for their favourites, and while we agreed with some of the official selections, it was fascinating to see that our students also had their own unique favourites. To read more about these amazing books, you can click here.

Our Concrete Garden
One of the Early Childhood shortlisted Books of the Year was ‘The Concrete Garden’ by the wonderful Bob Graham. In this story, a group of children who live in an apartment building in the city join together to create their own garden using chalk on a basketball court. Using this as inspiration, Kinder and Year 1 students have used their imagination to create a concrete garden at the entrance to the library. Other students loved seeing their creativity and spent time enjoying their work.
SORA eBooks of the Week
SORA has released another great collection of books for students to enjoy. This week’s theme is ‘These books are walking out the door!’
Meet the Reader
Meet Yin from Year 10, who was the first borrower of some new Manga. There is no doubt that this genre of book is fast becoming the most popular in our secondary library. I hope you enjoyed reading it!
Happy Book Week,
Mrs Toni Fraser
