Thank you for donating old mobile phones!
The old mobile phones collection at the recent Community Day event was a huge success! 31 old mobile phones were donated to us. Thank you, Rohan (11G2) and CJ (9G1), for donating 9 and 7 old mobile phones, respectively. The old mobile phones will be sent to Zoos Victoria to support the ‘They are calling on you’ campaign: https://www.zoo.org.au/theyre-calling-on-you-phones/
The Year 12 Environmental Science students raised awareness on conserving the Orange-bellied Parrot by getting the students to participate in the ‘design a cage’ and ‘scenario game’. https://www.zoo.org.au/fighting-extinction/local-threatened-species/orange-bellied-parrot/
The Green Team also promoted the ‘House Litter Challenge (HLC)’ to encourage students to collect litter from the college grounds and get rewarded with house points and prizes. The HLC aims to reduce the litter in the yards to protect the birds. The top three positions were taken by Banksia (30 points), Waratah (25) and Jacaranda (10).
Thank you to everyone that were involved.

Climate Change Education Forum 2024
On Wednesday the 1st of May, 4 students from the Green Team (Katie, Isabella, Anais and Daniel) attended the Climate Change Education Forum hosted by the Department of Education, Deakin University Centre of Regenerative Futures and Sustainability Victoria’s ResourceSmart Schools Program. The forum allowed us to collaborate with and share our ideas with the participants of other institutions (of various government agencies and departments, schools, and organizations).
The forum was divided into several workshops, each focusing on a different aspect of targeting climate change. The day started with a general overview of the current issues surrounding sustainability and the Victorian Government’s response to climate change.
This was followed by the ‘Time to Act’ workshop, in which participants were encouraged to explore what they envision the future might be through drama. By physically acting we were able to better visualise the issues that are facing our future and come up with innovative solutions.
‘Intergenerational Conversations’ enabled us to learn from the experiences of the older members of the forum on what has helped them lead more sustainable lives. It also provided us with an opportunity to express our concerns and fears about the future of the planet and come up with reasons to be hopeful.
The day finished off with the ‘Artefacts of the Future’ workshop, where participants came together in groups to come up with creative innovations and/or new technologies to target climate change. Our group came up with “Brenzymes”, an electricity generator powered by bacteria containing digestive enzymes that can break down plastics. The generator would convert household waste into biofuel to generate electricity for a community (as well as power a community sauna, as contributed by a third-party organization).
Overall, the education forum was highly beneficial as it allowed us to communicate our ideas to achieve a sustainable future. Furthermore, it also enabled us to develop the relationships between the Brentwood’s Green Team with like-minded institutions within across the state, bolstering our aspiration to build connections with the organizations in which we can collectively strive to “be the change we wish to see in the world”.
