Principal's Report

Student Community Day

Students in the Brentwood Green Team, Student Representative Council and a range of other Student Leadership teams successfully organised and ran our Term 2 Community Day with activities embracing their selected theme of Sustainability and Endangered Species. The school was abuzz with excitement, engagement and community spirit.

Their decision to focus on this issue is due to Australia containing 124 species listed on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN's) Red List.

Our nation contains approximately 7-10% of all species on Earth, with a reported 566,398 total species in this country, of which 85% of these species are found only in Australia.

As one of the most biodiverse regions in the world, we must learn to protect our species facing threat due to us humans.  With this in mind student developed and facilitated the stalls and activities listed below to promote awareness about this issue and raise and donate money to their chosen charity Zoos Victoria; a world-leading zoo-based conservation organisation that is dedicated to fighting wildlife extinction.

Zoos Victoria is a not-for-profit organisation that works closely with animals during breeding and recovery programs, and they hope to continue to protect the future of animals and their homes.

Professional Learning Communities

Brentwood recently hosted a series of teacher workshops and PLC in action observations for North Eastern Region Government Secondary Schools.

The workshops and presentations delivered by teachers from our leadership team to a large audience of teachers and principals from more than twenty different schools across our region and staff from the Department of Education to learn more about and observe how our staff work collaboratively to identify, and address identified ‘problems of practice’ through Professional Learning Communities.

As a PLC Link School for the Department, Brentwood has been selected because of our strong PLC culture and well-established collaborative practices to regularly host and visit other schools to support them in developing their frameworks, structures and practices to support PLCs as a vehicle to build practice and improve student outcomes.

This day was another opportunity to showcase and share our work with colleagues across the sector and was well received by those in attendance.

Semester Changeover

Please note that Semester One ends on Friday 14th June with a new timetable for Semester Two commencing the following Monday 17th June. Semester One reports will be available on Compass at 3pm on Friday 28th June.

The General Achievement Test (GAT) will be held on Tuesday the 18th June.
