2024 Intermediate Basketball Victorian College Championships (VCC) Qualifying Day
The EXCEL Sport Program entered two teams in the Victorian College Championships Qualifying Day at Frankston & District Basketball Centre. The competition is always fierce in basketball competitions, as the teams that enter are all basketball academy schools from all over Victoria. Our Year 9 and 10 students competed extremely well throughout the day and progressively improved in team offense and defense. It was a pleasure watching our ball movement in transition and the teams working cohesively. We narrowly missed playing finals but represented the College with distinction throughout the day. Thank you to Mr. Hayes for your assistance and Lynkin-Joy K, Ciera D and Harli L for scoring all matches.
Year 10 EXCEL Sport NRL 9s Tag South/East Gala Day
On Thursday 20th June the Year 10 EXCEL Sport classes went to Casey Fields in Cranbourne East, to participate in U16 NRL 9s Tag South/East Gala Day. This was the first time the EXCEL Sport Program had participated in the Rugby League space and it was a pleasant surprise. Patterson River Secondary College entered one boys and one girls team in the Under 16 division. The boys played in the semi-final game against the eventual winners Hallam Park SC, losing this game 20-24 and finishing third overall. An inspirational effort considering we had no subs and the opposition was well versed in playing this version of the game. The girls had a remarkable day. Undefeated through the preliminary rounds and the finals to play in the grand final against Cranbourne West Secondary College. A complete domination from start to finish and a convincing 20-8 win to be crowned the NRL 9s Tag South/East Champions. Congratulations to Ciera D for being awarded player of the tournament. As well as the tournament, all students participated in a respectful relationships workshop with former Canberra Raiders player Alan Tongue which was very impactful. A fantastic effort by everyone involved.

Year 9 EXCEL Sport Golf Unit
Throughout Term 2, the Year 9 EXCEL Sport students participated in a 5-week Golf unit under the guidance of 2 PGA golf coaches, Jack and Jaydon at Patterson River Golf Club. The students were taught the fundamentals of golf including fairway shots, approach shots and putting as well as golf etiquette and course care. The unit culminated in a group 9-hole round of golf on the Patterson River Golf Club course using the Ambrose format. Well done to Ava W, Harli L, Charli F and Tamisha U for winning the competition with a score of 5 over for the day. Thank you to Jack and Jaydon for passing on their knowledge and expertise and Ms. Daly, Mr. Hayes and Mr. Walton for assisting throughout the golf game.
