Lord, we pray for healing, forgiveness and unity, creating a path of goodwill, with justice and compassion. Jesus, through the power of your love, you have given us the courage, wisdom and strength to share our gifts and talents in humility.
In peace and understanding we reconcile with each other.
National Reconciliation Week is celebrated each year between the 27th of May to 3rd of June. These dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey— the successful 1967 Referendum and the High Court Mabo decision respectively.
National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
Reconciliation must live in the hearts, minds and actions of all Australians as we move forward, creating a nation strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
We all have a role to play when it comes to reconciliation, and in playing our part we collectively build relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, cultures, and futures.
Last Tuesday evening, our Year Six families came together and participated in the preparation of Confirmation. We began our Confirmation journey by engaging in a Confirmation workshop with Maria Forde. Throughout the evening, the children were able to reflect on the importance of the gifts of the Holy Spirit and make connections to these gifts within their lives. Thank you to all who attended this evening and we encourage that you continue dialoguing with your child about this important event.
We continued with the Bishop's visit on Wednesday. The Year 5/6 children had the opportunity to meet and engage in learning with Bishop Terry Curtin. The purpose of his visit was for the bishop to meet the Confirmation candidates and to discuss various elements of Confirmation.
As people of faith, our Year 6 learners were given the time and opportunity to engage in a Retreat Day. The purpose of this day was for our learners to develop a deeper understanding of the importance of the Sacrament of Confirmation. As people of faith, we engaged in various learning opportunities to understand, discover and make connections about the Sacrament of Confirmation.
The day began as we gathered in the chapel to reflect and engage in prayer. We began by asking Jesus to guide us, as we spend this day reflecting and understanding the importance of the How the gifts of the Holy Spirit play an important part in our daily lives and how these gifts have made us the special people that we are today.
Throughout the day, the children had the opportunity to engage in learning with Ian Vergel (Seminarian) Ian’s knowledge and understanding of the Sacrament of Confirmation was very informative, and the children’s dialogue, response and engagement throughout the day were a credit to them. The day continued with the children designing and mosaicing their crosses, followed by our shared hot lunch and finally writing letters to our sponsors outlining the special gifts that they have and why they were chosen to be their sponsors.
This Sunday the 2nd of June, our Year 6 Confirmation candidates will be celebrating the Sacrament of Confirmation at 3:00 pm at St Fidelis Church. A professional photographer has been booked for the day to capture this special event. Families wishing to take up this opportunity are to be in the hall between 1:30pm - 2:30pm. NO family photos will be taken after 2:30pm. A group photo of the confirmation candidates will be taken at 2:30pm. This will allow all our candidates to have a photo with the bishop. Individual photos of your child receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation will occur during the celebration. The children will process into the church once they have had their group photo. We ask that all families are seated in the church by 2:45pm for the celebration to begin.
The St Vinnies Winter Appeal provides food and clothing for people who are experiencing difficulty in their lives. Each year as a school community we come together to donate to this worthy cause. This year, our Social Justice Leaders and Community Leaders will engage in collecting, sorting and organising the donated goods to be distributed. Your kind donations will assist those in need.
Each learning space has been allocated a basket for goods to be placed in. Donations can also be left outside the STEM space. We encourage the St Fidelis' community to take part in this appeal.
Thank you and God bless,
Annette Gasbarro
