Hello from our students and teachers

Respect, Responsibility and Kindness

Hello from Grade 5/6 WP,

In maths we have been exploring fractions, angles, capacity and volume. Students went on a search and find mission to locate different angles around the classroom and yard, naming and measuring the angles that they found. They also filled a brief to design a room that had to include a number of specific angles-which some students creatively worked around by strategically placing geometric mats in their rooms!

We investigated capacity with a challenge involving Tiddalick and the Murray River, which also gave students the opportunity to use their knowledge of halves and quarters in problem solving with whole numbers.

Narrative writing is the focus for the next few weeks, an opportunity to use the amazing creativity, descriptive language, sense of humour and vivid imaginations of 5/6 W.  Students have crafted characters by thinking about appearance and personality traits, and what type of narrative they fit in. This week we have looked at the elements of a narrative and are working on the orientation, pulling the reader in with the words we use and the images they create.

There are a variety of short stories, picture books and novels that being produced, students are developing strong authors voices. Very exciting!

Here are some photos from the first four Fridays of term with students enjoying a
