Education Week

Education Week is an annual celebration of education in Victoria.  This year’s theme, Spotlight on STEM, highlights the importance of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) in our everyday lives, in the classroom and beyond.

At Croydon Hills we celebrated Education Week on Tuesday with our open morning and afternoon which showcased the fantastic work that our teachers and Education Support staff are doing every day.  It was amazing to see so many mums, dads, brother, sisters, grandmothers, grandparents and other special people visiting the classrooms and seeing our students in action!

A particular highlight of our STEM space at Croydon Hills is our Science and DigiTech Lab.  On open morning, our Year 6 students were exploring circuits and electricity in their Physics lesson.  In the afternoon, STEM Club had time at lunch to practice their coding, video editing and circuit making.  Some students just had fun playing Minecraft with their friends.  On Thursday, Chess Club spent recess refining their moves!

A big part of our annual Education Week celebrations is the opening of the Bookfair.  The Library was converted to a giant bookshop through the week and it was a very busy place with so many students coming through!  Well done to our two talented librarians, Mrs Jessica Ward & Mrs Justine Horkings on creating such an great event.

Once again, a big thank you to staff and visitors involved in the organisation and attendance of Education Week at Croydon Hills.  It was great to see so many things happening across our amazing school.

Prep Police Visit

On Wednesday our Prep students had an incursion from our local Police members.  During the incursion, students learnt about road and personal safety and had a question-and-answer session with the police helpers.  A highlight for our students was trying on police uniforms, climbing through the cars and sitting on the motorbike.  Some of our local reader’s might have heard the police sirens and seen flashing lights throughout the morning as students participated in the activities and saw the cars in operation!

Taste of Melba

Tomorrow, the Year 5 cohort will be participating in a to visit to our local secondary school Melba College.  This annual event, ‘Taste of Melba’, will give many of our students their first opportunity in seeing a secondary school running and taking part in a range of sessions with teachers from the school.  It will great to hear their experiences when they get back.
